Lapham Peak Snowmaking
Update and Map

Thanks to John McCarthy for sending this photo of the snow guns firing up last Saturday.  Much snow resulted by Monday and of course the work goes on so you can start skiing at the earliest possible date.  He also sent us an updated map of the Lapham Peak trail plans for man-made snow through Phase 4.  The goal is for five loops totaling over three kilometers with as much or more than 150 feet of elevation gain.  CLICK HERE to view map.

You can make this has happen with your donations.  CLICK HERE to  help.  Donations of any amount are appreciated.
New Dates for Seeley Hills Classic
In a cross country racing calendar that seems as set as Christmas falling on December 25, a change like this is big news.  Seeley Hills Classic, the popular 22-year-old 42 and 22 kilometer classic skiing only race on the Birkie Trail, has changed for 2014 from its traditional second weekend in January to Saturday, January 25.
According to director and founder Dennis Kruse, the change was prompted by the conflict with Sisu Fest in Ironwood, Michigan which has similar distance classic categories along with freestyle races and a tour.
You may be quick to note that this now puts Seeley Hills Classic up against the Noquemenon Ski Marathon in Marquette, Michigan which features long and short distance classic categories.  While this may be a problem for some, Kruse said about 80 percent of his skiers come from Minnesota and are less likely to travel to Marquette.
The Seeley Hills ski hat shown here is this year's design.  Early preregistered skiers will be assured of getting one.  CLICK HERE for event info.
Telemark Roller Coaster Rolls On

Changes at McMiller Trailhead
One of our favorite Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest ski areas, McMiller Sports Center near Eagle, is about to implement changes this season that will provide separate facilities for a cross country trailhead that will be open all week.  The building currently shared with the shooting range is currently only open on weekends and parking has also become an issue.  CLICK HERE  to see Tom Held's report.
