  • Assistant Nordic Coach: Breck School (Minneapolis, MN):
    Breck school is seeking an assistant Nordic coach for its racing team. The season runs from Nov 15 through Feb 18. Practices are M-F 3:15 - 5:30 PM and some Saturday mornings and weekends. Ski Camp is in late December. Races are held on weekday afternoons. Candidates should possess knowledge/experience in aspects of fitness & basic ski technique training.     The YWCA of Minneapolis is seeking an Endurance Sports Coordinator to develop and build triathlon, running, cardio and other endurance sports programming (coaching, classes) to serve its members and the Twin Cities community. This position will also provide leadership for the YWCA of Minneapolis indoor triathlons and Women’s Triathlon. Reports to Fitness Manager and collaborates with aquatics department.     Seeking assistant Nordic ski coach for ISD 196 (Apple Valley, Rosemount, Eagan, & Eastview High Schools). Qualifications include: Proficiency in both classical and freestyle technique; Coaching experience working with female and male athletes; Ability to attend team practices and meets in the southern metro area. Previous Nordic racing and coaching experience highly desirable but not required. Position can be either full (5-days/wk) or part time (3-days/wk.) with a $4,700 salary for full-time position. Jim Farrell Passes Away
August 24, 2010
Jim Farrell, a popular metro Master skier, was killed in a car accident Thursday, August 19th. There will be a memorial "service" at Theodore Wirth this Saturday, August 28th from 1-4 pm.

MiSSeries Banquet Wraps Up Season
April 11, 2010
The Minnesota Skinnyski Series wrapped up another successful season with the annual banquet at the Vasaloppet Center in Mora. MNYSS was on hold to recognize some of the top metro youth skiers and MNSA presented lifetime achievement awards to Bob O'Hara and Pat Lanin.

Minnesota Skinnyski Series Banquet this Weekend

The 2009-10 Minnesota Skinnyski Series Banquet is this Saturday, April 10th, at the Vasaloppet Center in Mora, MN. In addition to recognizing the series winners, MNSA will honor Pat Lanin and Bob O'Hara with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday!

Nancy Bauer writes a tribute to Liisa Arthur who passed away on New Year's Day. Arthur was one of the pioneer women XC ski racers in the Twin Cities back in the early 70s.

Cynthia Brochman Passes Away
December 28, 2009
Cindy Brochman, running star, snowshoer and wife of Olympian Kevin Brochman, passed on Sunday morning after a long battle with cancer. A memorial will be held the second weekend in January, details to follow.

North Star Ski Touring Club December Meeting

The December North Star Ski Touring Club meeting will be at 7:00 pm, this Tuesday, December 8 at University Lutheran Church of Hope in Minneapolis. The program will be presented by club member Jim McWethy, who will be giving a presentation on "Skiing History in the Twin Cities".

Just coming in... Sad news that Nikolai Anikin Sr passed away on Saturday morning. Anikin had been diagnosed with cancer over two years ago and was given just a few months to live at the time. His warm personality and extensive skiing knowledge will be greatly missed. Details on memorial service not available yet.

Brew-Ski for Caitlin Recap
November 9, 2009
More than 70 supporters turned out Saturday evening for the Brew-ski for Caitlin Compton fundraiser, hosted by Cheryl DuBois and a large group of volunteers. The event was highlighted by a large selection of silent auction items, a canoe full of home-brew beer from the local skiing community and a birthday cake for Caitlin. Donations to support Caitlin's Olympic dreams can still be made.

Birkie Young Skier Grants Awarded
November 6, 2009
hirteen youth cross country ski programs will get a boost this winter thanks to funding from the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (ABSF). The Foundation recently awarded $12,000 to programs around the country targeted to youth skiers.

Dr. Lowell "Hap" Lutter Passes On
October 7, 2009
Dr. Lowell "Hap" Lutter passed away on Sunday, just a few days after the Lutter Trails dedication and on the same morning as the Twin Cities Marathon, one of his favorite events, passed by his front door. A memorial service is scheduled for 10am Sunday, Nov 1st at the Macalaster College Chapel.

Friends and family of Hap and Judy Lutter gathered Friday evening at the Theodore Wirth Chalet to celebrate the dedication of Hap and Judy Lutter Trails, in honor of their lifelong support and commit to the silent sports community. The new trail layout will be the centerpiece for the 2011 Junior Olympic Nationals.
