  • Bike/Ski Shop Manager: Loppet Foundation (Minneapolis, MN):
    Seeking Bike/Ski Shop Manager to create and run a national class bike and ski shop and service center within the Trailhead to support year round outdoor activities that helps the Loppet Foundation, the MPRB, the North Minneapolis community, and the broader public enjoy year-round outdoor activities.

  • Assistant Nordic Ski Coach: St. Paul Academy and Summit School (St. Paul, MN):
    St. Paul Academy and Summit School is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Nordic Skiing Coach for the winter season. The minimum time commitment includes potential weekday practice times after 3:00 p.m. and all meets. Weekends included as the schedule demands. Qualifications/Requirements - Ability to communicate with High School aged girls and boys as well as parents and Athletic Department Administration - Comprehensive knowledge of the sport of Nordic Skiing - Coaching and/or playing experience preferred - Experience/familiarity with IMAC and MSHSL rules and commitment to youth sports preferred - Willingness and ability to support the Head Coach and contribute to team needs - Must meet all the MSHSL coaching requirements and a CPR/AED Certification strongly preferred. Start date is November 13th.   • Assistant Nordic Ski Coach: Minneapolis South High School (Minneapolis, MN):
    Minneapolis South High School is seeking an Assistant Nordic Ski Coach for the upcoming season. The season runs from November 13 through February 15; Mondays through Fridays (and occasional Saturdays).
    Qualifications:
    -Available to get to Mpls South HS by 3pm; practices are generally done by 5:30, occasionally later.
    -Ability to communicate with, motivate, and mentor high school-aged student athletes.
    -Ability to communicate effectively with other coaches, parents and administration.
    -Nordic skiing experience in both skate and classic techniques.
    -Nordic ski racing and coaching background preferred but not required.

    Three Rivers Park District is hiring Nordic ski instructors for the upcoming 2017-18 winter season. If you are an accomplished Nordic classic and skate skier, with experience teaching or being coached, and you love to share your passion for Nordic skiing with others, then this is the winter job for you!   • Nordic Ski Instructors: Galena Lodge (Ketchum, ID):
    Galena Lodge, 23 miles north of Ketchum, Idaho is looking for two full time Nordic Ski Instructors for the upcoming winter season. Season runs November 13th, 2017-April 11th, 2018. Duties include skate and classic ski instruction, ski rentals, ski tuning, snowshoe rentals, snowshoe tours, yurt servicing, snow removal, packing snowshoe trails, retail sales and more. Room and board are provided for full time employment. Galena Lodge is a community owned day lodge located at the northern end of a 200km trail system. We have 50km of Nordic trails at the lodge.     The ISD 196 Nordic Ski team (Eagan, Eastview, Rosemount, & Apple Valley High Schools - Minnesota) is seeking applicants for 2 Asst. Coaching positions (Girls Varsity & JV; Boys Varsity & JV). A minimum of 3-years of racing experience or 1-year of coaching experience is required. This 5-6 day/week position runs from mid-November thru mid-February with practices and meets typically scheduled between 3:00-5:30 PM.     Benilde-St. Margaret's School is seeking a Head Nordic Ski Coach for the 2017-18 School year. Head coach would be in charge of the boys and girls programs and coordinate all matters in regard to the program. BSM is close to Theodore Wirth Park for practice as well and holds practices at Three Rivers Parks locations. Team is made of about 25-30 boys and girls and the team does return state participants.

  • Full Time Nordic Ski Coach and Admissions Counselor: Univ of Maine-Presque Isle (Presque Isle, ME):
    The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking a Full-Time Nordic Ski Coach and Admissions Counselor. The ideal applicant would be capable of and committed to competing with the top ski programs in the US. The combination of strong coaching leadership, early snow, training at one of the top Nordic skiing venues in North America, and a community that is very supportive of skiing, have helped send several athletes in this young program to NCAA Championships. We are looking for a coach to build on that early success and turn that into a tradition. This dual-position will also work as an Admissions Counselor, who aids in the marketing of the University's academic programs to students from area schools through presentations, personal visits, and interpersonal communication. Admissions commitments, including recruitment from the Nordic program, will be most extensive outside the competition season.

2017 CXC Award Recipients
May 1, 2017
The CXC Awards Dinner recognized four of the central region's outstanding ski community members at the inaugural CXC Congress weekend in Eau Clair, Wisconsin this past weekend. Ahvo Taipale was awarded the inaugural Lifetime Achievement award, Ben Popp, American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation, received the John Hugus leadership award, Kris Hansen, Stillwater Nordic Ski Team, was named the Igor Badamshin Coach of the Year, and Joe Kelsey received the Wayne Fish volunteer of the year award.

Chequamegon Champ Steve Tilford Passes Away
April 5, 2017
MTB pioneer, World, US National and Chequamegon champion Steve Tilford was killed in a car accident Wednesday morning in eastern Utah. Tilford was a frequent competitor of the Chequamegon 40, including three victories.

John Harju Passes Away
January 11, 2017
Sad news from the Northland: John Harju, son of Erkki Harju, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 9th in Two Harbors. Vistation scheduled for Friday evening with funeral service Saturday afternoon in Two Harbors.

John Holmquist Passes Away
November 24, 2016
North Star Ski Touring Club legend John Holmquist passes last Saturday, Nov 19th. Holmquist was a Birkie founder and in 2012 won the Tim Knopp award for his dedication to both Nordic skiing and the club.

Jean Cecil Passes On
October 29, 2016
Jean Cecil, one of the founders of BJ's Ski Shop and mother to Birkie champion Lynne Cecil, passed away last week. Cecil was well known in the cycling and Nordic skiing communities, and helped in the development of the Minnesota Youth Ski League.

Joe Nowak Passes Away
October 28, 2016
Longtime Cloquet Nordic ski coach Joe Nowak passed away on Thursday evening. Nowak was considered the founder of Pine Valley and coached many state championship teams for Cloquet. He was elected to the Minnesota Nordic Ski Coaches Hall of Fame in 1978. A complete obituary with details of services should be published on Sunday.

CXC Chairman's Awards
October 25, 2016
At the CXC/USSA Wayne Fish Coaches Conference last weekend, the Chairman's Awards were presented, honoring some big contributions by individuals from the Midwest. The Igor Badamshin Coach of the Year award went to NMU's Sten Fjeldheim, Craig Jarvinen was named volunteer of the year, John Hugus Leadership award went to the Loppet's John Munger, and Dennis Kruse was recognized with the Tony Wise Lifetime Achievement Award.

Osseo Coach Brad Rosch Passes Away
September 27, 2016
Breaking news Tuesday evening, long-time Osseo high school Nordic coach Brad Rosch suffered a heart attack on Saturday and passed away Tuesday afternoon. Rosch lead a number of squads to the State Meet and helped develop many great skiers including Matt Liebsch and Sarah Bezdicek. Services will be Tuesday morning, Oct 4th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with a celebration of life ceremony 3 pm at Elm Creek.
