- Asst Nordic Coach: Chaska High School (Chaska, MN):
The Nordic program at Chan-Chaska High Schools is interviewing candidates for an assistant Nordic coach position. Our program is a combined program with two high schools in District 112. We are a very well supported team with a good budget, an amazing "wax room", more commonly known as the Nordic Club House. We have our own Scandic, track setter, and roller. We are well equipped with two Concept2 SkiErgs, power ropes, training straps, grass skis, waxing machine, etc. We can wax 18 pair of skis at one time, which means we have more time for training and skiing. Most importantly, we have a steadily growing team, whose skills continue to improve year over year. We have excellent support from the parents of our skiers, who volunteer to assist at races and other special events. Our coaching day begins at 2:00 PM and we are usually home by 6:30 PM. Our Junior High Schools have changed their schedule, so we are considering having some practices in the evening from 6:00-8:00 PM. Our dry-land training site is at Carver Park and that is our preference when we have natural snow. Also, when there is natural snow, we maintain a 5Km course on our school property and a 2.5 Km. circuitous loop on our pond. The assistant coach's salary is in line with most Nordic programs across the state. We expect that the Assistant coach will take all of the tests on the Minnesota State High School League web site for Nordic coaches. We are open to considering sharing the position with two individuals, but the combined coverage must meet all of the needs our team. The coach must have a solid understanding of modern Nordic ski techniques, both skating and classic, and the ability to demonstrate specific skills. Also, the coach must be able to establish good relationships with team members, and maintain a collegial relationship with the coaching staff, sharing the myriad of tasks that are part of each ski day.

Dave Sconzert Passes On
October 30, 2017
Ken Schoville reports: Minocqua Winter Park has many pieces to it's puzzle and we lost a key member when Dave Sconzert passed recently. There at the beginning, Dave served many roles in our ski community as a competitor, coach, board member, and as many will remember, an early and long time groomer, and of course friend, and unique character. Among skiers, Dave will perhaps be best remembered for his grooming, his pursuit of excellence in that capacity, and his ability to work the long dark hours so necessary to that trade in order to see the joy and satisfaction of many thousands of skiers that enjoyed his efforts. He will be remembered by our ski community as one of the oft times unsung heroes and hard workers who make our sport special, in the best of conditions and the worst of times, when we needed a smile, an outing to lift our spirits, Dave paved the way.
