NDC Thunder Bay is seeking a skilled, enthusiastic Head Coach to lead our organization into the future. The goal of NDC Thunder Bay is to provide a training environment that allows athletes to develop their potential to qualify for Cross Country Canada’s National Ski Team. This is a full-time, 12 month contract position renewable on an annual basis. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Application deadline is January 30, 2012.

Minnehaha Academy is a private Christian school in south Minneapolis seaking an Assistant Nordic Coach. The M.A. team typically has 30-50 skiers, ranging from beginners to state meet competitors. Rich Spielberg Passes Away

Rich Spielberg, well-known within the Twin Cities cycling and skiing community (and part-time photographer), passed away on Thursday after battling a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. Funeral service Sunday Nov 27th at noon, Beth El Synagogue in St. Louis Park.

Todd Ellison Dies in Boating Accident

Paddler Todd Ellison passed away Friday night while surf skiing with friends on Lake Mille Lacs. Ellison was a top paddler in the Midwest, including 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the Tri-Loppet in 2009 and 2010.

Movie Night at Lapham Peak

The Peak Nordic Masters group is showing an outdoor movie at Lapham Peak State Park this Friday evening, Oct 7th. The movie Megamind will be shown on a 30' inflatable screen/projection system and is free to the general public. All proceeds from concession sales will be donated to the Peak Nordic Programs to help with youth cross country skiing development.
MNSA Hires Executive Director

The Minnesota Nordic Ski Association is excited to announce the hiring of Michael Meehlhause to the position of Executive Director. Meehlhause has been the Commissioner of the Minnesota Skinnyski Series the past two seasons and is a recent graduate of Bemidji State University.
James White Memorial Bike Ride

There will be a memorial ride to celebrate the life of James (Crash) White, set for this Sunday, July 24th. The ride will begin at9am leaving from his house at 610 6th Ave S St. Cloud, MN. A short and long routes are planned, with all abilities welcome.

Kayaking Accident Takes Life of Winona State Skier

Kevin Dammen, twin brother of Kyle Dammen, of Austin, MN, passed away Tuesday in a kayaking accident on Lake Superior. Dammen was cofounder of the WSU cross-country ski club and a member of the cross-country team. Services will be held Sunday in Austin.
MNSAwards Banquet Coverage

The Minnesota Nordic Ski Association (MNSA) held their awards banquet on Saturday evening at Elm Creek. In addition to the usual Minnesota Skinnyski Series awards, the MNSA group also presented awards to the top Junior of the year, Jessie Diggins, and Senior of the year, Leif Nordgren, as well as the top Minnesota high school skiers, Ben Saxton and Sharmila Ahmed, and coach of the year, Bonnie Fuller-Kask of Duluth East. Bjorn Lasserud was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award to cap the evening.

Northland College Student Killed While Skiing on Chequamegon Bay

Northland College student Bjorn Erik Norgaard was cross-country skiing back to Ashland from Washburn late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, after attending festivities of the Book Across the Bay ski event Saturday evening, when he was stuck and killed by a vehicle.

Wayne Fish Passes On

Wayne Fish, one of the legends of silent sports in NE Wisconsin, passed away on Monday. Fish was the father of USST assistant coach Bryan Fish.
