American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation to Hold Annual Meeting

HAYWARD, Wis. - The American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation will hold its Annual Meeting on Saturday, August 5th at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will take place in the United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall in Cable, Wisconsin.

The first American Birkebeiner took place in 1973 as a small race calling on skiers to challenge themselves against the Wisconsin northwoods. In 1984, the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation was formed and the organization went from an independently operated business to a membership organization.

Today the Foundation is a 501(C)(3) Not For Profit Corporation. "We organize and support several cross country skiing events that attract almost 10,000 skiers and 20,000 spectators each year," said Cherie Morgan, executive director. The mission of the organization is to promote and conduct the finest international cross country ski competition, to serve as good stewards of the American Birkebeiner Trail and to support healthy and active lifestyles among skiers of all ages.

"I would like to encourage anyone who has an interest in cross country skiing, the American Birkebeiner or community events to attend the meeting," said Morgan. "We are more than just a membership organization. We are a huge part of the local communities and we want to make sure that everyone feels welcome to be a part of the Birkie experience."
