Minnesota Senior Biathletes Sweep Season Opener Sprint Race
Silver Star, British Columbia --
Minnesota biathletes Ryan Cameron, Andy Erickson and Dan Campbell went 1-2-3
in the men's senior class at the season opener in Silver Star, B.C. The
field of 37 men included the top Canadian biathletes minus the World Cup
team. The race was a 9 km Sprint format race (one prone stage, one standing
stage), and took place on a soft track following an overnight snow of 4
inches. Ryan Cameron of Minneapolis took the victory shooting 90% (0-1) and
finished 13 seconds ahead of Andy Erickson, Minnetonka, who shot 80% (0,2).
Dan Campbell of Hastings finished 10 seconds behind Erickson, and shot 70%
(2,0).
Tim Burke of Lake Placid, NY took the junior men's field with 80% shooting,
followed by Anders Osthus, Duluth, MN at 70% shooting. Walt Sheppard of
Yarmouth, ME was third, also with 70% shooting. The junior women's field was
dominated by Maryke Ciamandaro, Canmore, Alberta in first place. BethAnn
Ellingson of Grand Rapids, MN, placed second with 70% shooting, and Lanny
Barnes of Durango, CO was third with 80% shooting.
