SUGARBUSH CROSS-COUNTRY SKI TRAIL SYSTEM RENOVATED

The Sugarbush Cross Country Ski Trail system near Lutsen/Tofte, MN is undergoing a substantial renovation project in preparation for the winter season. Over 70km of groomed cross-country ski (skate and classic), snowshoe and skijoring trails are in the Sugarbush System.

With the commendable help and coordination efforts of the U.S. Forest Service, the Sugarbush Trail Association has installed nearly 100 new trail maps, intersection markers, sign posts/backboards and informational/directional signs in the system. The North Star Ski Touring Club from Minneapolis has donated money from their trail fund for all of the new signage.

The final phase of trail improvements is occuring in the next few weeks before deer hunting starts. Trails that have not been brushed in past years will be cleared and opened up. A major trail clearing effort will occur on the weekend of October 24-26 when two miles of connector trail will be cleared from the Moose Fence system to the Picnic Loop.

If you are interested in helping with the trail clearing effort on October 24-26, please contact Jeff Lynch, Trail Supervisor at 218.663.7643 or [email protected]

The North Shore Mountain Challenge Cross Country Ski Race will be held on these trails on Saturday, February 14, 2004. A 25km Freestyle/Classical Race and 10km Classical Race/Tour with wooden ski option are planned.

There are nearly 200km of cross country ski trails in the North Shore Ski Trail System.
