The racing in West Yellowstone was exciting fast and furious. Wendy Wagner (Yoko Poles, Grips, and Gloves) won the Women's 5km Classic, Justin Freeman, 2002 NorAm Overall Champion, won the Men's 10km Classic (Yoko Poles and Gloves), and Kikkan Randall, defending National Champion, won the Women's sprint (Yoko Poles, Grip, and Gloves), and Dave Chamberland (Maine Winter Sports Center/LL Bean - Swix poles) won in front of Lars Flora, Colin Mahood, and Torin Koos (all Yoko poles, grips, and gloves).

This domination by Yoko poles was not completely unexpected however as more races were won at the 2002 US National Championships on Yoko poles than all other manufacturers combined.
