Michigan State High School Championships Recap

Blake Murray and Ellen Wiitala win Michigan High School Championship Pursuit

Marquette High School's Blake Murray won the Boys Pursuit at the Michigan State High School Cross Country Championships on Saturday at the Michigan Tech Trails in Houghton, MI. He tied with teammate Eric Wagner in the Freestyle event, and then won the Classic event, with a combined finish time of 28:24. Eric Wagner finished second with a time of 28:56, and Andrew Bruning from Traverse City Central placed third in 29:06.

Ellen Wiitala from Marquette High School took the Girls pursuit in 32:15, winning the Classic race after placing third in the Sprint race in the morning. Copper Country's Evelyn Delong placed first in the Freestyle race, and second overall with a time of 33:42, and Team Gogebic's Britta Schroeder placed third in a time of 34:07.

Ellen Wiitala and Andrew Twohey win Michigan High School Championship Sprint

Ellen Wiitala and Andrew Twohey, both from Marquette High School, won their Michigan High School Championship Sprint races on Friday afternoon. Anna Meese from Copper Country and Britta Schroeder From Team Gogebic came in second and third, respectively. Marquette high school's Blake Murray was second for the boys, followed by Traverse City Central's Andrew Bruning.

 

Marquette High School wins Michigan High School Championships

Marquette High School wins the Michigan High School Championship team competition, followed closely by Copper Country, and Traverse City Central rounding out third.

Marquette High school had the top ranked boys team and second ranked girls team, earning a total of 391 points for the Sprint, Freestyle and Classic races. Copper country girls placed first and boys placed second, earning 371 points for second place. Traverse City Central Ranked third in both boys and girls teams, earning 193 points and third place in the overall team score.
