Conditions Excellent for Wolf Tracks Rendezvous

Minocqua Winter Park & Nordic Center will host the 4th Annual Wolf Tracks Rendezvous 42K Marathon & 24K Half-Marathon on Saturday, January 31, 2015.

All trails are in excellent or very good condition. Have a firm, level base of up to 8” and it skiing wonderfully. An extra 4” of humid snow fell on Monday, bringing the base up to 10” deep.

We will take the PistenBully to 75km by noon on Wednesday. This will help to take the softness out of the snow before we set the race course.

Another 1” of snow is forecast to fall by Thursday morning. A good mix of new and old snow will allow for fast skiing and 99%+ trail coverage. Only two isolated spots on the 42K race course have been identified as needing any shoveling.

The race courses will be groomed starting Friday morning. Skiers are asked to remain off Wolf Tracks and River Run trails until race time. Nutcracker, VO2 Max, and other trails will be groomed as soon as the park closes on Friday afternoon.

A nicely age-hardened, firm ski trail is expected for the race, with perfect corduroy and deep, solid tracks.

Race registration is climbing fast, with the 42K nearly 60% full and the 24K 33% full. Total participation is capped at 300 skiers.

Complete race information is available at www.minocquawinterpark.org/wolftracks

Non-racers are welcome all weekend. A tracking rule is in effect, and all spectators are required to yield the ski trails to bibbed racers. Lake Marie will be open all day without any race interference. Other trails will open as racers move through the park, starting at 10:30 AM. All racers are expected to clear the trails by 2:00 PM.

We’ll ski ya soon!
