The SISU Ski Fest announces its first price hike Nov 1st. Register now for the lowest entry fees.

The SISU Ski Fest Board of Directors hired Jackie Powers as its new race director and media consultant. Powers, of Ironwood, formerly coached the Team Gogebic Nordic Ski Club’s youth programs. She is a certified Nordic Ski Coach and recreational ski racer herself. Powers and the board are implementing many changes to the 8th annual event, to be held in Ironwood January 6-8, 2017.

The fest centers around the SISU 31K point-to-point ski race originating at ABR Ski Trails and terminating in downtown Ironwood on SISU Saturday. The race course has been retooled, taking out double loops and some of the flatter sections, and adding in a couple of new sections, resulting in the “shorter” 31K distance (it was formerly 42K) that fits in well with the early-season date.

Also on Saturday, the Heikki Lunta 15K ski race, and a new 5K fun ski provide a distance and difficulty level for skiers of all ages and abilities. Finnish stew (mojakka) and pasties will be served to participants at the Memorial Building immediately following the events, accompanied by musical entertainment, the awards ceremony and door prize giveaways.

Sunday features a 5K snowshoe race, 2K snowshoe tour, and a new fat bike demo in the Miners Memorial Heritage Park.

Ski on Saturday and snowshoe on Sunday to try and win the SISU Combined!

Also on the agenda is the Depot Dash for kids age 10 and under on Friday evening, and the Expo at the Memorial Building Friday - Saturday.
