Vasaloppet course trail grooming underway

A significant portion of the Vasaloppet race course from Warman to Mora was groomed on Sunday. The goal of the day was to complete grooming of the entire course, but a mechanical problem slowed the grooming pace and eventually put halt to the effort. After this grooming effort is complete the course will receive additional grooming as needed until race day.

On Saturday volunteers placed bridges across river and stream crossing along the course. The photo is looking south at Schlagel’s Hill at the Knife River crossing.

Grooming and set up of the start area near Warman will be underway closer to the 45th Vasaloppet ski race on Feb. 11.

The outlook for the Vasaloppet is very different this year with the introduction of snowmaking. If weather does not permit the Warman to Mora point-to-point course to be used, an approximately 45km or more course can be held on artificial snow by running 2-3 laps through the woods and hills at the Nordic Center.
