ABR Improvements
December 11, 2001
The following is a pictorial review on some of the major improvements
made at ABR over the summer. Photos and comments supplied by
Eric Anderson, ABR Ski Trails.
This is a piece of the new Jack Pine extension. The new loop
ads about 2 km and follows the Montreal River. The Trail was
built on the City of Ironwood's Norrie Park property by ABR
with cooperation from various youth groups and clubs. The
trail is open to the public as a walking trail in the summer
months accessed from the park and is accessed from the ABR
trailhead in the winter. The trail was built at no cost to
the tax payers and was one of the top 10 nominations for the
"Partnership Award".

This is a shot of the new Easy Trail. The Easy Trail was rerouted
to be completely separate from the River Trail. This will
accommodate grooming and will allow us to keep the trail open
during races on the River Trail.

The warming cabin expanded to over double its original size.
The addition has 4 large windows overlooking the trails to
the south. The room has tables and chairs and will be used
on busy days and for events or ski clubs or teams.
The field had a culvert added and the drainage for the parking
lot expansion improved. The parking is now be expanded into
the field/stadium to accommodate races, clinics and events.
The snowshoe trail has been worked on to allow snowshoeing
in low snow months. Some pieces have been slightly rerouted.
the snowshoe trail is a 4 loop trail system 2-3 feet wide
through some scenic areas and overlooks.
We shoveled a lot of snow on southern areas. This climb is
a reroute on the River Trail to get the trail shaded and back
in the woods sooner. It skied well in October but it still
is a climb!

exposure.
This Rustic (ski-in) Cabin is back off of Bard's Bump Trail.
We are still finishing off the inside, but the outside is
completed. The inside has a sleeping loft that will sleep
4-6. This cabin is bigger than the old one and will rent for
$35/night (the old one rents for $25/night). It should be
ready to rent out in December.
