Three Rivers Trail Updates
June 25, 2003
The following is a collection of trail updates, primarily
from the Three Rivers Park District system. Thanks goes out
to Nancy Lauseng, Public Relations Specialist with Three Rivers,
who provided most of these updates.
- Elm Creek (asphalt trails)
This summer, the Park District is reconstructing the roads,
parking lots and six miles of paved trails in the central
and southern portion of Elm Creek Park Reserve. Construction
is scheduled to begin July 7 and will continue through late
fall. The main park entrance will be closed and visitors
will be detoured to an entrance on Zachary Lane. Detour
maps will be posted. In a related project, the city of Champlin
will be building a new paved trail from the new Cobblestone
Lake Preserve development to the existing trail near Lehmans
Lake. During construction, park visitors will still have
access to 13 miles of paved trails in the northern part
of the park. The park's popular play area, renovated swimming
pond and picnic areas will remain open.
- Southwest LRT - Southern Corridor
This spring the final segment of eastern end of the trail
was paved. An asphalt off-road path runs now from the Hopkins
Depot all the way to the Midtown Greenway trail.
- Southwest LRT - Northern Corridor
The Park District will be resurfacing parts of the trail
over the next two weeks. The trail will remain open but
be aware of possible work areas.
- Snowmaking in the Three Rivers Park District
- The Park District will again provide opportunities in
the morning for cross-country skiers at Hyland Ski &
Snowboard Area in Bloomington.
- The Park District Board has approved moving ahead with
snowmaking at the Elm Creek Winter Recreation Area, which
includes a 2.5 km cross-country ski trail. The timeline
for development of the project is extremely tight. The availability
of a finished product will be dependent upon being able
to complete the project on time. Too early to tell, but
the Park District is moving ahead with hopes for the 2003-2004
winter season.
