    [ forecast/conditions ]
    • Jan 3 - Battle Creek Regional Park West (Saint Paul):

Conditions: Mixed of conditions - good coverage throughout, but strong winds today were blowing some snow and a fair amount of debris around. The prairie was pretty clean, the back woods had some pretty "dirty" sections.
Skied a couple of laps of the Twin Cities Championships course around 2 pm. Very windy afternoon, so a lot of stuff was being blown around. The prairie loops were pretty clean. The start area has a maintainence road plowed for snowmaking, but it looks like there is still good room for a mass start. There is a few prairie sections with man-made snow mixed in, though it was hard to tell the separation with the blowing conditions. There is also an icy patch on the last long downhill before the big prairie down (you'll easily see the icy patch, its along the left side). Good conditions throughout, plenty of snow and not too icy. However, it the most wooded back sections, there is a lot of debris on the trails. Mainly ground up leaves and small twigs, nothing to hurt your skis but could generate some interesting kick waxing problems. There was a solid classic track thoughout, but with the wind today it was acting like a leaf magnet in places. Good skis should be fine for both races.
