Ames 1  East River Valley Park/Carr's Woods    4km       515-292-9753
  Nearly level trail through densely wooded flood plain. This trail is one of the best in Iowa because of the protection afforded by the dense tree cover. Trail is groomed for classic and skating on Fridays by local enthusiasts.  
Ames 2  Iowa State University, Cross Country Course    6km       515-292-9753
  This one of only two or three trail systems in the US that is dedicated to cross country running. The trail winds along College Creek in the wooded ISU Arboretuem and out into open fields. It has moderately rolling terrain with several challenging hills. The trail has very good turf cover but unfortunately is not groomed regularly. Usually there is a classic track established by local use. Skating can be great on this trail if the snow conditions are right. 
Cedar Falls 3  Cedar Valley Trail         
  The trail is a multi-use trail for biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing.  
Cedar Rapids 4  Ellis Park         
  Classic grooming on the very rolling hills of Ellis Park Golf Course. Best trails within the city limits.  
Cedar Rapids 5  Morgan Creek Park    2mi       319-892-6450
  The 236-acre park includes a modern campground, cross-country ski trails, open shelter and arboretum. 
Central City 6  Pinicon Ridge Park    12.5m      
  This 925-acre park along the Wapsipinicon River has long been admired for its scenic natural beauty. The hilly, heavily wooded area is divided by the river and home to many species of wildlife. 
Cresco 7  Prairie Springs    10K      
  Gentle terrain, mix of forest and open field. Trailhead is at the Howard County Conservation lot in Vernon Springs. 
Decorah 8  Decorah Trail System    25km       800-463-4692
  Decorah has a variety of loops and trails. Groomed for skating and diagonal. Beginner to expert. Very pretty along the Upper Iowa River. Oneota Drive Recreational Trail has 1 mile of lighted trail and winds along the upper Iowa River and scenic Phelps Park bluffs. Palisade Park offers great views of Decorah and has 2 miles of intermediate to advanced trails. Van Peenen Park offers 4 miles of classic double-track.

  Located in on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River, just south of Dubuque.  
Forest City 10  Pilot Knob State Park    5 mi       641-581-4835
  Some ski trails are multi-use. Warming house with electricity and heat. 
Iowa City 11  Macbride Nature Recreation Area    15.0k       319-335-9293
  The trails are mostly wide and gentle with about 4 km of very challenging terrain. The system is groomed weekly or after a snowfall. 
Iowa City 12  University of Iowa Ashton Cross-Country Course    10K       319-384-1225
  The entire area is well maintained during the non-snow months which means ski grooming can take place with light snow.  
Marion 13  Squaw Creek County Park    10K       319-892-6450
  Mostly flat or gently rolling as it follows Squaw Creek. Trailhead is across the road from Red Cedar Lodge at the base of the sledding hill.  
Mason City 14  Lime Creek Nature Center    15K       641-423-5309
  About 5K groomed open country skate ski trails with another 10K groomed woodland classic ski trails. 
Polk City 15  Big Creek State Park    5km       515-984-6473
  The trail network utilizes the disc golf course and other park grounds adjacent to Big Creek Lake. The terrain is level to gently rolling. Trails offer nice views of the lake and cross a mixture of natural habitats that harbor many birds and other wildlife. 
Toddville 16  Wickiup Hill Trails    8K       319-892-6485
  Trails flow through wetland, prairie, woodland and savanna. Beautiful Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Area built in 2002. 
Viola 17  Matsell Bridge Natural Area    12.5m      
  Matsell Bridge Natural Area features an extensive cross country ski trail system. The system includes skate and traditional cross country skiing trails.  
Waterloo 18  George Wyth State Park    10km       319-232-5505
  Trails are primarily flat and run over bike paths as well as hiking paths. Groomed for skating and classic.
