Trail Reports

2014-2015 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 18    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov
Saturday, March 7, 2015
Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Bare ground ]
Acceptable for classic. No tracks. The west side of the coarse along Edgecumbe Road south of Montreal was the best. No grooming has been done lately but the die hards were excited at the amount of snow left even if it meant jumping from one patch to the next. I was able to ski most of the course using this method. Early Sunday may be the last opportunity! Enjoy the sun and the exercise.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: No good! Icy, rutted, grass.
Not sure what I was thinking but I decided to give Highland 9 hole a try on my lunch hour. No tracks, icy, lots of grass. Back to the snowmaking loops!

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Fair to poor, but actually skiable for skating.
I went this morning with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. About 80% of the trail is still intact and easy enough to step around the grass areas. Rock skis for sure, but all I was looking for was an easy recovery ski, so it worked for that.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Fair, more grass and twigs starting to surface.
Nice to be skiing close to home but conditions have regressed some since yesterday. Would use B skis. Most of the bare spots avoidable. Was not groomed today.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Trail conditions are fair. Has not been groomed recently. Snow is firm and dry.
Grass coming through on probably 30 to 35% of trail, windblown as well. Had marginal, but enjoyable skate this afternoon.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
More exposed grass than yesterday despite new dusting of snow. Friendly skiers! Caution: disc golfers and one guy snowboarding down extremely steep hill getting sick air.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Perhaps 5% partially exposed grass, otherwise nice skating.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Groomed and in decent shape for skate and classic. Exposed grass and twigs in several areas especially hilltops.
Skate skied this afternoon at Highland, lots of skiers out! Groomed trails have taken a toll as a result and just need a bit more snow to cover those remaining grassy areas. Overall good skiing all things considered.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Improved with the new snow, but windblown, slow.
Much better than last week with the grass only occasionally showing through. The tracks were about 40% blown over which resulted in very slow classic skiing. The skate deck looked very soft.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Groomed and in good condition (both skate deck and classic track) except for exposed areas on hill tops, which are wind-swept and slightly barren of snow and/or icy.
