Trail Reports

2014-2015 season
Reports 1 to 7 of 7    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan
Sunday, March 1, 2015
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Very good for skating; fair to good for classic.
The bluff trail was delightful this afternoon. The thin coverage on the sun-exposed section is holding up nicely and the prairie and woods sections are in excellent shape. The combination of full March sun and fabulous vistas of the Mississippi River valley and surrounding coulees made for a perfect outing.

With a new layer of snow and fresh grooming, previously iffy spots are now covered.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good. We have snow.
Trail on golf course is excellent. Newly renovated trail on Memorial bluff is good, with only a few dirt spots showing through. If you don't have snow where you are, come on out. You will enjoy it.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Golf course is very good. New snowfall groomed up nicely; Bluff trails are good, groomed but a little thin in spots. Very skiable but recommend B skis.
After a warm-up spin around the golf course, I enjoyed a sunset ski around the bluff. Love this new trail!

Grooming
Conditions: Good to very good. A little thin in spots on the open prairie sections. Plenty of snow in the woods.
The buff trail skied a little slower this morning with the warming temperature. Coverage remains good. Visitors should know that the lower portion of the trail has historically been a walking throughout the winter. We are hopefully transitioning to skiing only but that will take time. The skiing is still good, just not the immaculate surface we prefer.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Bluff trail is good to very good for skating. Groomed yesterday and the skate deck set up nicely. Tracks were set for much of the trail and looked OK. Several dirt spots pulled up by the grooming but easily avoidable.
The local skiers are all smiles with the reconfigured and vastly improved bluff trail. It is a gem!

Grooming
Conditions: Golf course loop is good to very good with a few wind-blown spots and some willow tree debris. Bluff trail is good with some easily avoidable root stubs and dirt spots along with minor wind-blown wavy sections up top. Just received first grooming so was a little soft. The groomers plan to hit this section hard this week.
The entire bluff trail was reconfigured and widened this fall and now accommodates both styles. The ascent/descent, while unavoidably still a significant climb, is more gradual and has speed reducing swales for an exhilarating but safe descent. The top loops flow wonderfully through and around the prairie sections, along forest edges and include several outstanding vistas of neighboring valleys. Recent snowfalls finally allow for growing to commence. With the climb and rolling trails up top, this trail requires decent fitness and ski handling skills for peak enjoyment. Comparable to the "Everest" section at Willow River SP.
