Fantastic conditions! Kudos to the Blue Hills groomers for following through on grooming once begun. Hard packed with some powder through the woods. Fast but not icy; able to catch an edge to climb. Worth the drive today.

Fresh corduroy throughout the trail system and new tracks, too. Base is at least 8" and 20" of snow in the woods. Mostly firm skiing with occasional softish spots in the sun. The first few K of the west side trails ore pock marked with dog and human prints, making the skating deck a little uneven. Overall excellent conditions.

Packed powder mid-winter conditions, most trails groomed nicely firm despite Monday's big snowfall. Plenty of high quality classic track. Great late taste of winter.

Fresh grooming of the Eastside skate lane created fantastic skating conditions this morning. The classic track was set earlier in the week and is glazed each morning, then softens a bit when temps rise above freezing. Late winter freeze/thaw cycles began Feb. 26. Try to catch the magic window each morning before the snow gets too sticky.

Hardpack crystalline powder, excellent skiing Wednesday. Beautiful skate lane and high quality classic track. A couple trails on the Eastside had 1/2" of standing snow that was faster than the groomed trails. A few Eastside trails are closed for logging, visit the website for details and directions to some very fun alternate routes.

Hard packed powder, in some areas day old corduroy felt like sugar snow. Good edge control, fast skating, a joy to step into the classic track. Conditions the past couple days were perhaps the best skiing in several years.

The skate lane and classic track are in great shape, conditions again were excellent today (Thursday). Skiers either enjoyed fresh corduroy on the Eastside, or had the option of skiing 1/4" powder on the Westside trails. More grooming Friday as we prepare for the weekend.

Super awesome skate deck skiing at dusk Friday. I expected a grind, but I was flying. Poles broke through in some spots on west side. Firmer on east side. Tried classic as well, and didn't have great kick. But I blame myself.

Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand

Skied the east side on fresh corduroy with very good snow cover. The trails were bit soft in sections and the fresh snow slowed the glide some but it was very smooth. A few trails are closed for logging but there is plenty of trail with variety to ski. The classic trails were set and had new snow in them. More grooming is planned and will just improve the conditions that are already very nice.

There is a logging project in progress on the East system, more later. Jerry and I arrived to find new grooming on the deck and two inches of fluff in the classic track. Almost all I have skied this year has been some form of ice, not real snow... Jerry skied classic waxable skis while I took a set of skins. The skins were not the best choice for dealing with the deep fluff in the track. They worked in the fluff, but much better on the deck or in packed track. We also found scattered sections of newly cut classic track. I do not know this trail system so I can't tell you where the cut track is, or how it lines up within the system. Jerry and I packed a lot of fluff filled track over a 2.5 hour plus tour. Watching the time and sun position, we set up to ski back to the cabin. We bumped up against the logging project closure at Point #29. We backtracked and found the way out, including some fast downhill action on serpentine trails. Fun stuff on the fresh grooming! Some of the most difficult hill sections include a unique way of describing the difficulty factor. For you tree people, there is a stand of Eastern Hemlock on this trail system. I might have seen some Yellow Birch too. Both species would be at the far end of their range. Beautiful! A few other skiers were about. With the track fluff factor in mid speed downhill turns, I could usually hold track with the outside ski edged up and well weighted. I lost a few times and it was no problem to skid or step the turn. The fast stuff with turns was all on the deck. It was a beautiful trip with a very good workout on excellent grooming.
