Trail Reports

2017-2018 season
Reports 1 to 5 of 5    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Saturday, March 10, 2018
Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The skiing today was good for spring skiing. The trails were a bit squishy, but overall the tracks were good. Lots of folks out today which is good to see. The base seems solid and should hold up to a couple days of warm weather. Hopefully it cools down a bit to preserve the base. There was definitely a lot of moisture in the tracks so you will definitely want to use your warmer waxes.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Nice double track along outside but none of the junction cut-offs are groomed for shortcut back to the chalet. Very little debris or grass anywhere. With more snow falling today conditions should only improve. Some people were skating and it appears skate trail was also recently groomed.

The classic trail was good skiing for the most part. There are areas where the grass is coming through. We need more snow, but it's skiing. Nothing is perfect. Be careful on the trail in the woods. I saw a chunk of bark in the trail too late and it dumped me. Other than that the trail was pretty fast. Waaay better than the conditions at hjemkomst from earlier in the day.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
The skate deck is firm, but there are hundreds of small pillows on the trail from the wind event on Saturday. They are pretty firm though, and not more than a few inches deep, so in most places I skied over them rather than breaking through them. They didn't try and grab the skis too badly. There are some areas of the trail with a lot of small sticks and other tree debris from the wind. Also, the deck is wind-exposed down to grass on some of the little hilltops (I know. I'm using the term "hill" loosely. It is Fargo.) Anyway, you can avoid the grass and most of the sticks, so that is why I say it is ok for your best skis. There were some 2-6 inch ridges and step-offs from the groomer on the side-hills and other areas, so we need more snow, but what can I say? It was skiing. I did not ski the southern-most loop toward the course entrance. As a bonus, the horse-drawn sleigh hasn't been out yet to destroy the trail! Yippee. No classic track set that I could see.

Skiing early season. It is what it is; some areas there were no tracks, but any skiing is good skiing!
