Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Skated Tuesday morning during a very light drizzle which fortunately never amounted to much. Trails were very good. Firm, not icy, very good coverage. A couple spots with some debris poking through but easy to get around. Not all the loops were groomed last go-round but what was is worth it. The little light snow we're getting this morning should only help.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We had a great time on the nicely groomed classic trails this morning. Just for fun we also skied-in some tracks on the far end of Lions Pride. The snow was lake effect light. Superb kick and glide. Pure joy!

Firsthand: Classic Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed for the third day in a row this morning. Not all loops, but most. Skate deck is very good to excellent with just a few thin areas. Same with classic loops. Tracks are mostly excellent, although the tracks cut through to bare ground in a few tiny stretches where previous base had totally disappeared. I skied yesterday afternoon after grooming and though the tracks were soft, skiing was very enjoyable. On the skate side, as of this morning, Long Rider, Will's Crossing and Ridge Trail are groomed. Classic loops groomed are Hair Raiser, Wild Thing, Doug's Folly, Pine Hollow and Short Cut. Tracks and skate base are much firmer than yesterday.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed yesterday, again this morning after another four inches fell last night. Skate loops groomed today include Ridge Trail, Will's Crossing and Long Rider. Remainder are ungroomed but good for bushwhacking. Skate decks for groomed loops are mostly excellent. All classic loops are freshly groomed and tracked except for outer part of Lions Pride. Tracks are very good to excellent with a few very small places where for 10 or 20 yards the new powder snow was covering what was bare ground two days ago. Overall, use your best skis for normal mid-winter conditions.

Observation Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All ]
Checked out the first 100m or so of the trail this morning as a light rain fell. Since then about 1" of snow has fallen, somewhat wet stuff. Skiing today will be so-so as we will not be able to start re-grooming until tomorrow. My new grooming assistant plans on grooming skate loops beginning sometime tomorrow morning. I have meetings the next three nights so will not be able to groom and set new track on classic loops until early Friday morning. At that, tracks set on Sunday still look good and should be decent when skied in.

We enjoyed some fabulous conditions on the classic trails. Freshly groomed and a few sections of skier tracked powder. Gotta catch these primo winter days while they last!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Went out to set track this morning on Lions Pride, which I was not able to get to yesterday. Had a disaster halfway through Lions Pride when bracket on track pan broke. No track for the rest of Lions Pride. Unfortunately, about 1k of classic trail from end of Oak Ridge back to where dual skate/classic trail begins has no track-it was erased on my way out. Some wider portions of the skate/classic dual trail from there to the chalet still have good track, but narrower stretches have no tracks. Hope to have bracket welded or a new one on as soon as possible. Other than that, trails are in great condition, and vast majority of classic loops have very good to excellent tracks.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I got out this morning to recondition and groom all loops. It turned out much better than I anticipated. The snow is granular and I'm sure somewhat abrasive, but with a half-inch of powder on top to mix in with the icy stuff beneath the end result is skate loops with a fairly smooth and definitely very skiable deck. Classic tracks for the most part set deep and firm. I'm going to rate both skate and classic conditions as very good. A little more snow and we'll be back to perfect.

I find the Long Rider at Razorback to be one of the best workouts because of the rolling terrain the the length of this trail. Grooming was great.
