Trail Reports

2017-2018 season
Reports 1 to 8 of 8    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec
Monday, February 5, 2018
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Excellent for skating. Clean, well-covered, freshly groomed. It did not look like classic tracks had been set yet.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
It's a mix of glare ice and glazed frozen snow. The tracks are gone. I wouldn't consider even trying it until we get at least a couple inches of new snow. On the bright side, the base is about as solid as it can possibly get, and the whole trail is covered except for a couple short patches. Fingers crossed for some snow!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Skating loop report only. From the parking lot you can see where they attempted to groom the skating loop before the slush set up, then gave up. But the loop itself, where they didn't groom, is about 1 1/2 inches of clean, fast snow on top of a firm base, making some fine, though short, skating. Just a bit of dirt at the top of the one climb, otherwise in great shape.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Skied the Wells Wednesday. The trails had not been groomed. Not sure if track has ever been set this year. Poor to fair conditions. Generally not even a decent skied-in track to follow.

Morning
Secondhand
From Portage County Website this morning: Plover River ski trails will not be groomed today because they are too wet due to the rain. We will groom tomorrow or Thursday if possible.

Night
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Trails packed. Skating loop rolled wide, the rest of the trails rolled narrow. No classic tracks set. Some debris sticking out, but mostly good coverage considering the thin snow. I skied all of the trails excluding the crossovers.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Rock skis ]
All segments rolled only, with shallow skied-in tracks. The ground is covered surprisingly well, just leaves and sticks and a bit of gravel brought up by the groomer to worry about. The skating loop was in the best shape as it has seen few skiers and walkers, and I was surprised to see some new loops added for skaters.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails: Closed, Rock skis ]
The trails have been packed this morning and are thin. We took the 1.5 inches of snow and compressed it down to start our base for the rest of the year. As we get more snow throughout the year we will be able to work out the bumps and divots in the trails.
