Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
At 6am the lights were on and the groomer was tilling the skating trails with beautiful results. Nice, uniform, firm but with loose top surface. No bare spots and only a couple of the usual icy spots. The track had not been re-set by the time I left. It was intact but quite icy throughout. I double-poled most of the middle loop. Still fabulous skiing at this park.

There's still plenty of snow at Cleary. Skijored the multi use trail. The trail is in great shape. There weren't any bare patches. The only icy spot was just after you left the club house.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
I skated the Ironwood, Lakeside and Poplar Creek loops this evening. Good coverage and nice grooming throughout. Classical tracks were set and in very good shape. The skate deck was a bit soft in places but generally very good, especially where it had been skied in. There is some ice on the couple of short stretches that get afternoon sun. I used good skis this evening and had no problems. The snow on the trees made it look like it was mid-season! Many thanks to the Cleary groomers for keeping our season going.

Grooming earlier today made for a skate deck that was in excellent shape, with good coverage, and tracks that looked good. But Sun beating down made the snow feel mushy, despite temps remaining below freezing. My B skis suggestion based on some light scratches (where did I get these?), but really, deck is 98% really clean. Enjoy before it melts!

Plenty of snow coverage but no grooming. A couple inches of new snow on the skate deck since last rolled, and no corduroy at all. Skied in tracks only. Lots of ruts from skis and footprints on soft snow. Not worth it. Go to Hyland instead, at least Hyland is still being groomed.

Fast but icy at 7:30 AM. Trails were groomed yesterday but not many skier yesterday since corduroy was still visible on the trail. Tracks varied between good and washed out. One section (in the first 1/2 mile) that was an ice rink due to the run-off (look for the coffee colored ice!). Majority of the trail still looks like its in good condition and would be more fun when the temps allow for the deck to soften up.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I skated the Cleary trails this morning at 6:30. Grooming was underway, leaving a lightly tilled skate deck that in most places took an edge nicely and was lightning fast. A new track was not being set although grooming was not complete by the time I left. The existing track is well intact but icy in some places. Throughout the system there were no bare spots, minimal debris and ice only in the usual south-facing exposed areas. In short, conditions were very good and it's clear there's a lot of skiing to be done on these trails. Also, lights were on until the sun rose. Not sure when they come on, however.

Freshly groomed this morning. Tracks were set another day. Lots of debris due to the wind. Soft snow but can feel the ice in some sections. Majority of the trails are open.

I skied the Ironwood and Lakeside trail loops this morning, and they were in fairly good condition. The classic tracks were intact, with a few icy spots and some thin spots, but overall they were in good condition. There is a large melted area in the Ironwood marsh, but is it possible to shuffle around that. It was nice to be out in the woods on a beautiful sunny morning!

All except Lower Ironwood were very good. Lower Ironwood particularly where it crossed the marsh was in poor condition. Classic track looked good. I used FastWax Blue LF recently buffed with fluoro paste. Lots of older classic skiers near dusk taking advantage of warmer temperatures before tomorrow's thaw. Fast conditions (and chasing the classic skier who passed me on the out leg) resulted in my fastest ski - 7 mph - of the year despite taking a side trip on the spur to the maintenance facility and slowing on hills on Lower Ironwood.
