Trail Reports

2017-2018 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 39    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skate Skied from 10:30 to 12:15. The trail is still above average skiing especially after the 1K connector trail. The base is still really cold. Sometimes late in the Hickory ski year, a couple of those hills that face south can go a bit bare, but only saw that in one small area. As of right now there are plans I believe to scratch the surface tomorrow to allow for a safe fast ski. I used my A skis today didn't get a scratch, however there is a decent amount of debris on the trail. Late in our ski today it was starting to soften, so if you go it will be much easier skiing I'd estimate getting done before the 11am hour.

It appeared to be groomed this morning. At noon mine were the second skate tracks on the trails. Good base. Getting slow but not soft by early afternoon.

The sun might be setting on another ski season, but it's not over yet. Skate deck is very firm. Much safer and easier to get an edge than last weekend thanks to that added snow. It was fast. Skied around the 5pm hour with medium temp wax (Toko red), glad I had that on and not yellow warm weather wax. There are classic tracks set. I hopped in them a decent amount. Some spots they look good. Other spots they're pretty glazed. Enjoy! A skis can be used for skating. Debris is on the trail but I think can be avoided. If you're really worried use your Bs.

New classis track and skate surface Wednesday night. Trail should be excellent. Skate lane will be touched up again Friday or Saturday night depending on conditions.

Skate deck is in really great shape given the current warm weather we have. I didn't measure, but still plenty of base. There were no bare spots. There was not a lot of debris which can generally pop up this time of year. The area by the open hut close to where the single track crosses can sometimes be a sign of the first grass blades to pop through - none of that today. Of course it's warm so there's moisture in the snow. But with the excellent timing by the groomers this year, I'm rather optimistic that the trail will still be very skiable this weekend. I saw classic tracks set on the South Loop, but no tracks on the North loop. I only skied the North loop. Net of this is still excellent skiing but make sure you're waxed and structured right - I wasn't, so it was slow.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Groomers reported that the trail has held up fairly well the last few days. Skiers might expect a little debris but few, if any, bare spots. Groomers will freshen the skate deck in the morning. Not sure what to expect for track. Please consider heading out early and not skiing after late morning as the trail gets soft. Could be a magical morning tomorrow!

Trails are all open and groomed to perfection. I did all loops and trails. Couldn't have asked for any better conditions.

Wow, between Sunday and Wednesday, I don't think I have had any better skiing here. Way to go groomer! I owe you a beer!
