Thanks to Snowflake Nordic Ski Center and head groomer John Graham for a stellar season. Today I enjoyed a 65F May 1st ski on the last stretches of snow for my 139th consecutive day skiing and 144th of an eight-month season that began on October 27. Cheers, fellow skiers, and see you next season!

I was pleasantly surprised to see how much snow there still is at Snowflake! My spring ski terms are connected snow and covered. There is about 85 to 90 percent of the trail still covered with a mix of fun corn snow, old non scary ice type surface, grass and some water. The snow that is there is 97% connected with the usual early out spots grassy. The tracks are miraculously still there too for classic! Special K is by far the best of the 5k, I did not venture out onto the 10k at all. All the hard work the groomers put in this season has paid off again! Thank you!

Skied 5K and ski-able parts of 10K late afternoon/early evening. Removed skis about 4X to cross burned out hills. A slow, gentle ski, but very enjoyable to be in the woods in short sleeves and sunshine, beginning to smell the trees waking up. By far most of the trail is still snow-covered and ski-able, and in most of the woods, away from open areas, it still looks like winter. Clearly this is the beginning of the end, but if it gets cool enough to form corn at night, we could have some good days yet.

Wow, who would have thought we would have amazing Spring conditions on April 19th. After a wonderful week of skiing at Snowflake, I have kept coming back for "one last ski". Snowflake just keeps giving. There is nearly 99% coverage yet--just a few places where you may need to ski to the side or in the middle. Probably by tomorrow there will be a couple of completely bare spots and will be a bit soft. I skiied on a few of the trails that were not groomed prior to 11 a.m. and was pretty darn good as well. Feeling fortunate to get out today in 50 degree weather skiing in the sun and a t-shirt! Thank you Snowflake!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
All good things must eventually end, and today we did our final grooming of the 2017/18 season. The 5K, SpecialK, and open segments of the 10K were scraped and groomed for skating. Early skiing was rough on the frozen skate tracks, but post-grooming the deck was smooth and fast; returning skiers reported excellent skating at mid-morning. It will slow down as the day warms, but classic skiing on the 5K should improve as the ice thaws. We are parking the Ginzus, but the chalet will remain open from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. for those wanting to ski. No charge for day-pass skiers. Please do sign-in. It was a great, if challenging season! Thanks for skiing Snowflake - we'll see you in November!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
The 5K/SpecialK Skate decks were regroomed this morning and are firming-up nicely. The 5K classic Track looks great and benefited from being skied-in yesterday. This morning we compacted and groomed a skate deck on the previously groomed segments of the 10K: there is 100% coverage on the groomed route; the deck remains soft. Skiers can enter from the 10K outbound cut-thru at the 5K trailhead, or the cut-thru at Mole Hill or the Power Line turn. No restrictions on member-owned dogs, however use common-sense and consideration as the temperatures rise and the trail becomes vulnerable. We will continue to groom as long as the trail remains viable.

Beautiful sunshine, mid 20s temps, perfect mid-winter conditions, with sunshine like August 26 (!) on the 5 K at Snowflake this morning. Just over a foot of new snow, perfectly groomed (and grooming was happening on the 10 K as we skied). Best grooming ever this year at Snowflake! Thanks!

John and Jim worked magic again after the 10-12 inches of new snow! Fresh corduroy and new classic track made for fantastic skiing! I ski'd the classic track which was fantastic. Can't say enough about the great grooming at Snowflake this year. Thanks again fellas.

Skied the 5K just after dark Monday night. Conditions were perfect, grooming superb. 5K and extra K were groomed, 10K was not. Don't think it would be an exaggeration to call it the best skiing of the season on the 5K. Thanks, John and Dave, for grooming.

Classic skied the 5.5K loop 4 times this afternoon. The first couple loops the track was a little soft, but by the last two loops the track was firm with great kick. Plenty of snow and not even close to washed out anywhere. I disagree with John in that I think for at least the for next couple days you can use good skis. The grooming crew there does a great job and are too modest. Great conditions.
