Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Groomed yesterday afternoon and again this afternoon, no tracks set. Nice, fresh snow! I also skate skied most of the groomed trails. The snow is pretty heavy and wet and there are some slushy spots but it's April!

At noon today I think I had the trail system to myself with about 2-3 inches of powder covering the grooming that had been done (maybe early morning?) but obviously before the snow stopped. There was one skier-made classic track. The powder on the skate deck turned my skis into submarines so I did a little double poling and slip n' slide striding on my skaters. Lots of snow and grooming would be welcome.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most ]
Nordic Center trails were groomed Saturday afternoon and skiers were out on the trails despite continued snow and strong winds all day. Trails will again be groomed Monday morning. Grab your skis and get out early this week.

First visit to the Vasaloppet Nordic Center. Very good conditions on probably 80-90% of the 9-10km loop. Some thin, dirty, icy areas on the 10-20% that wasn't great. All thin spots were avoidable today on the skate deck. Classic tracks were also full depth most of the way with a few places with bare ground and glaced, ice in places. Enjoyed the fun cornering on the course, and the warming house is top notch!

We skied the 9 k loop from 9.30 to 11.30, while the race was going on. Skate deck and tracks were freshly groomed, and in excellent shape. The tracks stayed in excellent shape all morning. The folk in Mora deserve all the appreciation we can give them. Rather than setting an artificial deadline to stop grooming, they celebrated the snow. Thanks.

Vasaloppet USA is singing a new song - April in Mora. Absolutely beautiful trails for a 2nd season-ending race. About 65 skiers showed up to race the 10 & 20 k. Tuesday's snow was groomed to perfection for a 10 k course for skate and classic. More parking had to be quickly plowed. A grouse sitting a couple feet from the trail. A bald eagle circling overhead looking for struggling skiers (me?). A lot of smiling skiers. There will be good skiing for a while yet with the manufactured snow base, and the recent natural snow.

There was about 9km of groomed and tracked trail up in Mora today. The skate deck was firm for the most part and a little slow and creaky on my first two laps. The trail got faster on the next two laps as the sun got lower in the sky. Definitely worth the trip. Thanks for grooming!

About 7 K groomed. Piston Bully groomed, packed powder, blue wax. Skating looked great. What a morning of skiing, best April ski ever, but would have been great skiing anytime.

About 6K of trails were groomed this afternoon during another 5+ inches of new snow, that plus last weekend's snow and all the trails are in amazing shape!

No April Foolin' - Classic skied on hardwax on April 1st! Vasaloppet Nordic Center trails were groomed overnight after about 8" of fresh snow, at least the main 5k loop and a couple of the cutoffs/offshoots. Ranged from rock-solid to pretty soft in some areas, a few thin spots in the tracks to watch out for, but overall fantastic for April 1st. When I arrived at 10:45AM, I was the only car in the parking lot, but over the next couple of hours, was joined by a half-dozen locals enjoying the trails.
