2017-2018 season

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
11 am, 15F. Skated the upper green and campground loops. 0-3" of wind blown powder. Tips of skate skis must be lifted or you end up on your face. Classic skis would be a much better choice. This trail hasn't been groomed since our last several snowfalls but the trails are all snow covered, and the recent snow covered up the bare south spots. Classic skinny skis could be used anywhere on and off trail in the maple woods--just bring a GPS so you don't get too disoriented if you go off trail. Fat tire bikers have also been going through the woods on the nice spring snow. Enjoy skiing in the woods!

Spirit was freshly groomed Saturday morning, and I was lucky to hit it in the afternoon. Full coverage. We were the third tracks on a freshly groomed course. Plenty of snow, but the sun was taking its toll.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
At noon the trails were still frozen hard and no grooming. Unfortunately, the warm temps yesterday and ski use when the snow was soft left some hard to ski spots. A snowmobile running less than a mile on the trails made that section of trail hard to ski with the frozen damage. Also, it looked like Spirit also ran their tracked side-by-side on much of the campground loop when it was warm yesterday and that damage was sill froze hard at noon. Classic tracks are pretty weak. But the trails have lots of snow and no bare spots.

Was highly impressed by the grooming today for skate skiing. Appears it was groomed this morning. As with any spring skiing approaching 40F, expect some softer areas in the warm sunlight. Only spotted one bare area on a downhill, but very easy to avoid. Classic tracks were noticeably missing from the first black loop of the 10K course; they were otherwise present and appeared to be in good condition in much else of the course. Overall very enjoyable skiing and kudos to the groomers! Nice job maintaining a level and wide path with these warmer daytime temps.

Some of the best skiing we have seen all year! The trail is hard packed and fast. Warmer temps during the day and cold temps at night make for rocket fast conditions in the morning hours. Enjoy.

Great coverage at Spirit the high winds made for some dirty snow but otherwise awesome hard deck skiing!

Classic tracks were shallow and on some sections non-existent. Debris is on the trail from the high winds we have been experiencing. Not blaming the groomers. We need more snow. Skating deck looked very hard and probably fast. Do not recommend good skis.

Skied both Saturday and Sunday in excellent conditions. Well groomed, plenty of snow (don't know how much more fell past Sunday afternoon.) Because I've always skied snowflake in Duluth I never went to the Spirit Mountain trails but they are excellent rolling terrain with a couple nice climbs and occasional vistas. Great experience.
