Skied at noon today and they had just groomed. The first hill has large bare spots, and the bypass is ice, this loop was not groomed. Everything up the ski hill side has great coverage, no icy sections since the grooming, with only a few soft spots. Really good skiing.

Super fun skating at Chester yesterday evening around 5 PM! The deck is firm and fast but not icy. Walker footprints are barely making a dent due to the hard snow. One small spot of bare dirt on the SW facing hill by the bypass was easy to avoid yesterday by staying to the right side of the trail. Thanks for the regular, quality grooming! We appreciate having this fun and challenging trail within walking distance of our house!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Chester Bowl has been cleared of trees and debri and has been groomed. Grooming went well and we were able break through the top layer of crust and mix in some deeper snow making for a good ski surface. Should be some great spring skiing this week as temps stay on the cooler side.

I was going to classic but it is not groomed for that. Very good conditions and nicely groomed and not much foot traffic apparently after reading past reports. It was fairly fast also with temps in the upper 30s. It was a trip down distant memory lane as I last skied here almost 50 years ago when the State Meet was here and the jump was still there. Driving in I remember how Chester seemed kind of out of place with the surrounding are....a ski oasis. The course seemed much hillier than I remember...but that was a long time ago. As I recall the course used to go up the first hill and then to a small plateau towards the east where it was double poling and then came back along some bicycle bumps that were also good for double poling. I don't remember the first big uphill being so steep. I do remember the first downhill with the sweeping right hander with a cant to the outside. I biffed there as a sophomore...control was little more difficult on wood skis and three-pin bindings and I was a little intimidated then. Seemed easy with the skate skis and equipment and long run out. The next long climb seemed like I remember. The woods near the top were thicker way back when. I don't remember going way down (other side of the former jump - now alpine slope) and then that long climb too. We used to ski under the jump scaffolding and then a long gradual downhill before the final steep drop and across the creek which unnerved me some back then. I like the downhill now and the nice bridge. Todays equipment adds a lot of control and speed so I may have skied faster than way back when. Thanks for hearing me out and thanks Chester groomers for such a nice trail.

Chester was groomed and in perfect shape. Only the upper loop was groomed. It was tilled with the big pisten bully and it was smooth and level. The humid snow set quickly and skating was really fast. Fantastic skiing!

Skied around Chester Bowl in the new powder. It looked like about 6 inches of new snow freshening up the trail. It was not groomed -- I'm not sure why. The downhill was groomed. Hopefully Wednesday or Thursday?
