Awesome fresh corduroy, deep classic tracks, all segments open except for far eastern loop, fast and firm. Hope this continues after next blizzard.

Jack Lake is one of our favorite lesser-known places to ski. We have never been disappointed. We arrived late morning and skied until approximately 3:30. A little more than an inch of fresh snow blanketed the skate lanes; corduroy was not visible, and it was slow-going. Classic tracks are set and were quite soft. However, the afternoon brought a bit of shade to the trails, and with shade came faster skiing. Outside Passage was not groomed. The beginning of the trail, just past the shelter, always has pine needles, but once "out of the chute", very little debris was on the trails. The few oak leaves, pine needles, and twigs that were on the trail did not hamper skiing at all. The air temp ranged from 18-20 degrees, and there was no wind. It made for a very peaceful ski experience, and since the trees are still layered with ice, some fantastic scenery was available as the sun hit the trees in "just the right" manner. If you love a peaceful ski experience with a variety of trail options and beautiful scenery, Jack Lake is the place to go. Just be cautious where the snowmobile runs through (between the parking lot and warming shelter), as most of the snowmobilers do not stop at the trail stop signs. Most skiers walk from the parking lot to the warming lodge before putting on skis. The warming lodge offers a bench, a table with a few chairs, a gas fireplace on a timer, games, and a ski rack outside. Only a few years old, it's a nice addition to the trail head. One plastic porta-potty stands in the parking lot...It's better than the broken down outhouse that used to exist! For those who want real bathrooms, Antigo is just down the road.

Nordic skiing at its finest! A parking lot fun full happy faces enjoying this gem of a track today in 8 degree, light wind conditions. Our group classic and skate skied the course, taking in the beautiful terrain, the diverse mix of trees and open areas, on a fresh PB groomed trail. There is plenty of elevation change at Jake Lake but nothing that you cannot kick or glide up. It is a nice bonus that we also experienced being on Wisconsin's Ice Age Trail which runs right through Jake Lake Trails. The Spychalla Lodge at the trailhead, complete with fireplace, sets the tone for a great experience. Carpe Skiem!

In a word, "wow"! Jack Lake never disappoints! The 16-20 inches of new snow the area received this week was being groomed by the PB as we we classic skiing the course. Simple beautiful. Setting up for a terrific weekend of skiing. Carpe Skiem!
