Trail Reports

2018-2019 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 20    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Skied Cedar and Brownie today around 11am. Classic trails were very washed out. It was doable, but slow. Some debris on the trails, too. Hopefully they will be groomed after the next snowfall. It was still a beautiful day, though!

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Skied Brownie and Cedar around 12:30 pm today. Disappointed to find that it appears to have been a few days since they were groomed. Trails in rough shape from lots of foot traffic, fat bikes, and blowing snow.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Repaired, rolled, groomed and tracked all the rest of Brownie, Cedar and the land segments. Trails are now in good shape, with some drifting still ongoing. We are still not able to groom Isles and Maka Ska until we are cleared for safety through the channels.

Brownie Lake and the hill to 394 was in excellent shape with fresh grooming for skate and classic. However, Cedar Lake did not appear to be groomed as of about 2pm. I ran into a snowmobile heading toward Cedar Lake, so perhaps it will be groomed soon. Also, be careful on the 394 overpass, there were some nasty rocks and a lot of "snirt" sprayed everywhere from the road snowplowing.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We groomed this morning and all was good. We were hoping to groom tonight but the Loppet needed our sled so not grooming tomorrow. Coverage is good and still no grooming on Isles or Bde Maka Ska. We will get out and groom on Sunday morning.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Rolled, groomed and set tracks on Cedar, Brownie and the land segments earlier in the day Saturday. Deck and tracks are still a bit soft but the skiing is wonderful. Crew will likely roll and groom again Sunday after the snow. Isles and Maka Ska remain ungroomed until we can get through the channels.

Grooming

Rolling yesterday and grooming today and the trail is still soft. Great coverage on all trails. We are still not grooming the Isles and Calhoun due to the open water issue in Kenilworth channel. Conditions are great, go ski.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Several different members of the volunteer grooming crew rolled multiple passes around Cedar Lake, the land trails around Cedar as well as Brownie. The snow is deep, beautiful and setting up well. The plan is to come back Thursday to groom and set tracks. We are not able to roll or groom the channel between Isles and Cedar, Isles, the channel between Isles and Maka Ska or Maka Ska itself due to open water, thin ice and water flowage in the channels. Other than that, these lakes trails and rest of the Loppet trails are going to be fantastic skiing!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Rolled Cedar Lake and the Cedar Lake trail spur this afternoon. Even after rolling it, the trail is really soft. Yes, you could go out on touring skis but skate or narrow classic skis are going to be hard. Grooming plans: Another volunteer will roll a second time this evening and a third volunteer will finally groom tomorrow morning after the snow as set up a bit. It is possible it will still be a bit soft - there was a lot of fluffy snow out there.
Note: We were told not to groom the channel to Lake of the Isles from Cedar due to thin ice in parts of the channel. Because this is the only way to get toward Isles from where groomer is stored, we cannot groom Isles currently.

Very good conditions throughout (one small hole on Isles to Cedar channel that is easy to ski around.) Thank you groomers. People seemed to be skiing in all directions but that seemed to be working fine.
