Grooming Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The warm temperatures and sun yesterday were not kind to the trails, and temps today are supposed to be near 40 degrees with a chance of rain. We are getting reports of bare spots on the trail, but overall the trail still has snow. Overall conditions should be fair to good if you have lower expectations, and the snow will be very slow. The worst part of the trail will most likely be at the trail head with the best being the orange, white and green loops. We plan to groom on Friday, but the time we start will depend on the moisture content in the snow. If we pack down wet snow we will turn the trails into a skating rink.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Starting at 10:30am with 39 degrees and very sunny conditions was not good. As expected the snow was slow and squeaky but still enjoyable but a more workout. We did the purple loop and the biggest problem was the jerking from the shaded to the sun areas. The downhills were risky and several skiers reported falls. The last downhill for all trails except the red was the worse. I was lucky to not fall but it was scary and should have walked down. If it was cloudy, the warm tempature would have not been a problem.

McMiller = McPerfect! Best conditions I've skied in SE WI this year! Simply delightful with stellar grooming! I was on the blue loop.

Skated 2 blue loops in afternoon (12 cars in lot). Groomer was out refreshing the corrugate on interior trails and pressing in tracks for striders and all trails are firming up. Great cover with a couple of stones in snow on 4.5KM climb but good skis no problem. New route with no road crossing skis great. Thanks to groomer! Super job! Warming hut looks great and pellet stove works great!

The trails were being groomed as of 10 a.m. Slow going, but after grooming it was as good as you can get with 3-4 inches of fresh dry and fluffy snow.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomer has been out on the trails all day trying to pack down the 4" of light fluffy snow that fell overnight into morning. At noon, he reported conditions to be very good to excellent overall. Skate lanes and track will be set before he's finished this afternoon. Given time, the snow should set up nicely.

Classic skied the 11k blue loop which is very hilly. The tracks were poor to nonexistent. Trails were well marked and the forest was beautiful.

Skied the blue loop. Skate lane was a little soft but OK. The uphills were getting churned up but debris coming to the surface on only one hill. The part of the loop with the big uphill and across the ridge top had not been groomed as much as the rest of the trail and was softer; some of the skate tracks had pushed through to the ground. The classic track held together for the most part but my husband said there was stubble poking through in places.
