Just finished up a 3-day ski trip based out of Bearskin Lodge. Trail conditions were phenomenal and temps were sub-zero for 2 of the 3 days. Classic skiing was the technique of choice and Swix polar white was the wax du jour. Amazing trails of great beauty!

Finished up three days of skiing on these fantastic trails today, during which we skied 33 miles total. The base is at least 24", and the grooming is excellent. Very cold most of the time (-10F to -17F the whole time we skied Saturday and Sunday, then warmed up to 0F to 6F today), so Swix Polar White was the wax of choice on our Norwegian wood skis. Tried a bit of skating Saturday, but almost no glide due to the cold temp (-10F) and wrong wax. Saw lots of tracks of wolf, moose, fox, otter, rabbits, and possibly lynx or bobcat. Many trees are draped in a beautiful layer of snow, especially the balsams. The wind today didn't seem to dislodge too much of it.

We had to go back for a second day in a row to the Central Gunflint trails! The conditions are just too good to pass up! This time we started at Bearskin, and skied the north-south loop to Beaver Dam and the Ridges. It was perfection again for both skate and classic. It's hard to head back home the Cities after experiencing these conditions! Many thanks to the excellent groomers!

Perfection was the name of the game at Central Gunflint this afternoon. We skied out of Golden Eagle, and found excellent classic tracks as well as a great skate deck. They were the best conditions we've had all season! It was just one of those special days on the skinny skis. Of course the Boundary Waters scenery, and the solitude makes this area very unique.

Great skating and classic conditions today at Bearskin! Trails were freshly groomed for both. They didn't get rain in the past few days so trails are not icy. A winter wonderland!
