Dave Bridges and I enjoyed a couple laps on the 6k trail at Vadnais Lake. It was slower going while blazing our own classic trail but then was good. Neat to see the wildlife out including eagles talking to each other, great blue Heron,... This trail was very sheltered from the strong winds with all the tall pines.

Except for a little leaf and needle debris, trail north of Co. Road F was in excellent condition. I used Blue Swix, which was probably a little warm; gave reasonable kick but glide was not as good as my last outing here the prior week.

I skied both the Sucker Lake loop and the Vadnais trail around noon today. The Sucker Lake loop hadn't been groomed for a little while, but the tracks were well skied in. There was some debris in the woods, and the usual dirty, crusty snow along Hwy 96, but overall the trail was in good shape. The sides are a bit soft in some places, but I was usually able to get good pole purchase. There were some boot prints, but the hikers did a nice job of staying out of the tracks. As is often the case, there was a trio of swans in the channel just south of the lake--one of my favorite reasons to ski this trail.
The Vadnais Lake trail was being groomed as I skied it. I passed by the groomer on the out-and-back trail and had fresh tracks for my return. In one exposed spot, wind had already blown in the 15-20min old tracks by the time I skied through, but most of the trail was surprisingly sheltered from the wind. The Vadnais trail is a beautiful ski and the trail was in the best shape today I've ever seen it. Get out and enjoy!

The tracks are in pretty good shape, but the pole plants are a bit soft north of CR F. Which is frustrating because on a flat trail like this the tendency is to double pole more. South of CR F has a bit firmer pole plants. Usually this is where the walkers mess up the trail, but they seem to be staying off the tracks. If the groomers hit this trail one more time I think it will be perfect.

Groomer came this morning and set classic tracks on all trails. Conditions could not be any better! Click in and ski on.

The segment north of Co. Rd. F was excellent except for the snowplow wake next to Hwy 96. Trail was fully groomed and dual tracked except for the Hwy 96 section and drifted over section immediately after that. I used Swix Blue which was perfect. Excellent ski despite locking my keys in the car and having to have my wife come and bail me out.

I was on the vandais trail. The trail hadn't been groomed since the new snow. People had been skiing on the previous tracks and it was nice though. At around 10:30 the groomer came by going south and wiped out both sets. When he did finally come back he was setting new tracks. Nice skiing after that.

Due to high winds causing extensive leaf and needle debris and drifting, trail south of Co. Road E was in fair condition. While the track generally paralleled the machine-set track of the prior weekend, it was basically skier-set and surprisingly shallow. I used light green Rex. Assume the temperature was high single digits.

As of Saturday early evening: The Sucker Lake section (north of County Road F) had been groomed recently; great coverage and double tracks throughout. Beautiful place for an easy ski - particularly with kids.

Skied the Vadnais Lake trail in the mid-afternoon from the North Parking lot down the east side of the lake. The trail had been recently groomed and was in great shape.
