Skied the East Loop. Probably 90% was really good, but the rest had prevalent bare spots. Still a good ski.

Skied east loop. Between the deer, slush spots and minimal snow depth in some areas, it was tough going. Need snow!

Tracks were set this afternoon. The track depth varies based upon location. In the open areas , and under the pines expect shallow tracks, while in the wooded areas they will be deeper. Be aware there were three slushy areas on the west loop. Hopefully with the falling evening temperatures they will freeze over.

I skied around 12:30 pm. No grooming done yet after our recent snowfall Friday but a good 7-8" of new snow on the ground. I followed the tracks of two individuals on the west loop so there was somewhat of a trail on that loop; good going but not a hard/set track. No one had skied the eastern side by the time I had left near 1:30 or so.

The Nose Lake Cross Country Ski trails are anticipated to be in good condition through the weekend. We will groom early mornings if the weather doesn't get too warm. However, we expect conditions to degrade fairly quickly by early next week and ask that everyone respect the trails and not use the trails if you leave deep tracks or impressions. We can save the deck by not destroying it by skiing on it when its too soft. We only have a 4-10 inch deck on all of the trails, which is not much to work with. We will post closures when we think the trails are not skiable. Otherwise, ski very early in the day before the snow softens up and get off the trail immediately if your sinking into to deck. Winter isn't over and we'll get more snow.

Grooming

Received around an inch of new snow. Ripped up the old tracks and reset the trail this evening. Tracks set up nicely, and with the falling temperatures tonight the tracks should set up rock hard for tomorrow. The winds were picking up and some open areas are prone to some drifting.

Nose Lake tracks were set this afternoon, and should firm up nicely with the cold overnight temperatures. They should hold up well with some cold daytime temperatures predicted for a couple of days.

I skied the west loop only and was happy with the trail conditions, even in the areas under the conifers. The groomers had once again done a great job with what they have to work with. Very abrasive snow, use good binder and be prepared to re-wax.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Nose Lake ski trail has been groomed. Lots of water still in the snow base and snow is still wet and not frozen. Tracks are shallow and will probably glaze over as temps drop. But overall the trail survived the meltdown. Plan to groom late Saturday and chew it up more as it continues to freeze. West loop had deep ruts from skiing when it was soft but managed to get most out. East loop hadn't been skied and looks nicer. Lots of critter tracks on West loop really left holes and pockets. Deer mostly.

Spring skiing in January! Trail was in very good shape. My life long love - hate relationship with purple klister was back to the love side today. In fact, one of the best kicks I've ever experienced. Glide was fantastic too, given the shiny corn snow at dusk. While nearly anaerobic, I seriously envisioned Elite Wave in my future, quite a dream given I've been Wave 4 forever. The groomers may be mad at me, since I feel my speed likely melted the snow as I cruised across it. :) At any rate, get out and enjoy the snow while you can, wherever you happen to be.
