Trail Reports

2017-2018 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 18    Month: Apr | Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Both loops were compacted and new tracks set. Conditions look mid winter like. Trail conditions should remain that way if skiers can avoid the mid-day. Ski early, or late to enjoy this spring skiing.

The new tracks set up nicely this morning. With the cold evening temperatures, and the fact that daytime temps. won't be terribly mild, should allow for the trails to remain solid. There are a few pockets where the tracks are shallow, especially in the conifer's. There is still some good late season skiing to be had. Our days are numbered, so get out there while you can.

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Tracks were rest Thursday night. The west loop set up very nicely, but the east loop due to sun exposure didn't set up nearly as nicely.Try to ski early in the morning, or perhaps don the head lamp for an evening ski -- avoid the mid day time for skiing. We're trying to preserve the deck as we transition to spring, and grooming possibilities remain limited.

Grooming

Received another dumping of snow last night. This time about 5 inches of fairly fluffy snow. Both loops were rolled and retracted this morning. Should provide some nice skiing as we head into the week.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Both east and west loops were ripped up this morning. The snow being still very dry and behaving like shaved ice didn't allow for very deep tracks. The west loop has perhaps the most shallow tracks. Tracks on the east loop are better.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
You should take Tuesday off, and go skiing. This would be a good place to start, as I did, today. Firm, solid, whatever you like to call good snow, it's all this, and more. Edges are hard, classic rules, but the "Candelabra Forest," of old pines, near the end of the West Loop, is quite magical, makes this a great place to ski, and pretty close to US 51, on your way home....

Nose Lake has new track this morning. Keep in mind this was a fluffy snow, so there can be some soft spots in the deck. Otherwise favorable conditions exist. Enjoy the cold temps, while they're here. They'll be gone by March.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
With the 2-3 inches of new snow, bot east and west loops were reset today. Tracks are deep and will set up nicely with the falling temperatures. Should provide some nice skiing conditions for the weekend.

The groomers had just completed a re-grooming, which turned out great. The hard pack was churned up, corduroy laid down, and nice tracks were set. Very pleasant day for a ski. As always, the groomers have done an excellent job, especially considering the tricky conditions.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Exceptional conditions prevail at this system. The track is firm and snow cover is good. With warm weather heading our way, this could be one of the bright spots in Northern Wisconsin, well into the weekend. As a bonus, with some southerly breezes, the birding could become outstanding, as I encountered both grouse and raptors, this afternoon. Eight great miles of finely maintained classic trail, minutes from Highway 51. A great idea, if you are out skiing in the Northwoods, this week.
