Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Mondays grooming was pretty much obliterated by the high winds. Almost all the tracks were full or partially full, some skate decks were covered with blowing snow or like pavement. Conditions were a little better on the new track which was protected somewhat from the blowing but still had covered areas. My first time on it and it's wonderful. This is easily one of the top places in Dane County to ski.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Good skiing today although no grooming of the latest snowfall left skier set classical track that was a little shallow and narrow, plenty of loose snow for skaters. The classical only loop had just one track so effectively one way with not much traffic. The section paralleling Pleasant View Rd. had quite a bit of ice under shallow snow and at the bottom coming up to the clubhouse I needed to walk in my skis as there was no way to pole.

I had skates but did a lot of striding -- the trail had only been rolled and was very lumpy, only a partial skier set classical track. The classical only loop was missing signage and had no track set, very lumpy in spots making skating a little tough. Skiing was good but could have been much better. Unusual as grooming here is usually excellent.

Freshly groomed and in perfect condition. Firm, deep classical track and big wide skating lane with plenty of loose snow. The new 2 mile classical loop was really nice but could use some signage, I saw people going both ways. It appears to have been reversed from last year but I'm not sure.

Only saying fair because the top layer of the skate deck is pretty drifted/chewed up, making for slow going. Should be excellent though, after another round of grooming and some time to set up. BlackHawk connector is groomed and in pretty good shape. Windchill not bad if you cover your face.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Several inches of snow on the skate deck and skier set classical made it appear as though perhaps it hasn't been groomed since the snowfall although it may have been blown over by what became a very strong wind. Skiing was very good except for the section along Blackhawk Road with had blown over completely or hadn't been groomed. Lost the tracks halfway around and slogged through some pretty deep snow on skis not at all suitable for breaking trails.

Nice for classical skiing. Two main loops open and in good shape. Just a few spots that were exposed and others on the South loop that were blown over. Certainly worth skiing with your classics. Thanks Mother Nature and the groomer!

Quoting a post on the Madnorski website: "Rolled and tracked-soft right now. Needs to set up overnight. Look for new trail head east of the parking lot." Sounds like it should be ready for skiing tomorrow.
