Trail east from the Cannon Falls ballpark has not been groomed recently. There was a consistent classic track. It had 2 to 3 inches of loose snow on top. I tried to skate it anyway. Basically I'd go about 50 yards, walk 10 to 20 yards and then repeat. Except for uneven-surfaced, open stretch by the driveway, the underlying surface was firm although my poles would break through occasionally. I used FastWax Blue LF.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
On Monday, Cannon Falls to Welch was groomed for both traditional and skate skiing. Since then, the CVT received 3 inches of very fluffy fluffy snow! Both groomed lanes are a bit slow due to the new snow. Tuesday Welch to Red Wing was groomed for traditional and skate skiing. Conditions are good to excellent! Recommend: Good Skis - no risk of damage.

Cannon Falls to Red Wing was groomed and tracked for both skate skiing and traditional skiing. Classic track is excellent, skate skiing is good coverage, soft, but should be firming up with the colder weather. Skied 2 mile section west from Sunset Trail. Given weather trail was in good condition. 100 per cent coverage. Trail had been packed and groomed. Shallow classic track. High 30's. Only one other skater had skied the trail before me. His or her tracks and to a lesser extent mine were the only rutting evident. Lesser sun exposed portions of the trail that had not gone thru thaw freeze cycle was. soft and slow. More sun-exposed that had refrozen was crusty and faster but still strenuous to skate. Went faster on my return with the downhill slope helping me. Used FastWax Yellow LF.
