Trail Reports

2017-2018 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 16    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied the East Side and part of the West Side. After the last warm-up followed by a couple of inches of snow the tracks are not full depth but still decently formed and in decent shape. With the new snow it is not icy. Nice early spring conditions.
I have elected not to groom the trails as I am not sure our groomer could handle the crust and I don't want to make things worse. With the up and down conditions forecast it seems to me to leave a little loose snow is the best. It is highly unlikely that any more grooming will be done this year but don't hesitate to get out. We have a great base and it is pretty darn good skiing.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed the trails this Sunday Afternoon. A good track is set. Conditions may be a bit soft after all the snow and in a few places the trail is either tracked or not tracked as usual due to using old grooming equipment. It still looks good so don't hesitate to get out before warm weather hits.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Tried to groom this morning and got the groomer stuck because of too much and too warm of snow. Switched to the drag and our old tracking sled. All trails are packed. The East Side and the West Side main trail from the parking lot through the Sylvania Loop and back is tracked. The hills and connecting segments are packed but not tracked. Things should be very ski-able and it is beautiful in the woods so don't hesitate to get out and ski.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed early this afternoon. Tracks were fully formed and the surface is hard, but not icy. There was some trail usage immediately after grooming so the tracks may not be quite as crisp as when they can freeze overnight. It still should be great. Conditions should be very good.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skied late Saturday afternoon after the temperature dropped below freezing and found a thin icy crust. I groomed Saturday night and successfully broke up the crust. In the headlight of the grooming snowmobile the trail looked like a war zone from the snow that fell from the trees the last couple of days. Grooming leveled it out nicely and while the trail does not look as nice as it does after a fresh snow, conditions are very good or better. Tracks are well formed. There will not be any icy skiing conditions.

Ideal conditions and fresh tracks set. Thank you to all who work on this trail. Much appreciated. Did the East trails for the first time. Excellent.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Dragged and leveled trail yesterday. Tried to groom yesterday afternoon but the snow was still not set up enough. Groomed this morning after a cold night and have great tracks set. We are finally in mid-winter (excellent) conditions.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Parking lot plowed and trails rolled, but no tracks yet. Some segments rolled twice and connector on East side has corduroy laid down. Groomer said trails are too soft to complete that grooming phase. We were very happy to be making skier tracks instead of breaking trail--looks like 8-12 inches of new snow. Pole plants were generally solid, but snow was a little more fluffy the further out we got from the parking lot. It's a winter wonderland out there with beautiful mounds of snow draped over the conifers! Get out there before the next January thaw!
