Trail Reports

2016-2017 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 41    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Observation
[ Trails: Closed, B skis ]
Trails are closed. Though the ski base is over 90% still intact, it's a treacherous sheet of ice with a thin layer of snow dust on top. The snowshoe trail and bike trail are in about the same condition. With no snow forecast for at least a week, it's unlikely winter trails will be opened again this season. Exposed sections of the bike trail are starting to thaw and are getting soft - please stay off until we post that they are open.

Afternoon
Observation
[ Trails Open: All ]
Checked the trail conditions this afternoon: Though I'm not ready to close the trails yet, the conditions are not great - ranging from hard ice, to soft, dark sections to pretty good. The good news is the base is still intact and with colder temperatures and possibility of snow coming later this week/next week, there's the possibility we can extend the season. Stay tuned.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Picked up 2-3" of lake effect this morning so all trails - snowshoe, ski and fat bike - were groomed today. Conditions are excellent with no issues.

Great skiing on a firm trail. Classic tracks were shallow in places. Skate lane was fast and firm. Gently rolling terrain and well laid out trails. The coverage is complete without any dirt but more snow would always help. Thanks for the great grooming! The new chalet is not yet open, but looks like it will be worth visiting when complete.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed all the ski trails and reset track this morning. For the most part the trails are in excellent shape - there's an icy section on the 6k loop were water flowed across the trail last week, a wet spot on the snowmobile trail at the second crossing and a couple spots with just a little dirt on the trail (easily skied around). Skijored the trails after grooming and it was just getting sticky with the 35 degree temps. With the temps cooling down for the next few days, skiing should be really good through Saturday. Fat bike trail was groomed on Monday.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We picked up about 6-8" of snow overnight and this morning. All ski trails have been rolled, groomed and trackset and were setting up nicely tonight. There's still one wet spot on the 6k loop that can be skied around otherwise trail is in great shape. Forecast is calling for light snow early morning so should be great skiing tomorrow. Will start working on the fat bike trails tomorrow but with the amount of snow we have gotten since Thursday and with just one pass on the bike trail so far, it may be pretty soft tomorrow.

Grooming

Winter's back! Picked up about an inch of slush on Thursday and about 3-4" of snow today with more coming. For the most part, our base survived the week-long warmup in great shape with about half-dozen area where trickles crossed the trail (few inches wide, easy to ski over) and two damp areas that can be skied around. All the ski trails were groomed today and will groom again tomorrow (Sat) morning and attempt to set track. Most of the fat bike trails were also groomed today but will take a few more passes to clean up some rutting.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails were glazed over and pretty icy this morning. Tilled up the skate lanes and that really transformed the trails, creating some of the best skating yet this year - for about 3 hours. Trails started softening up around noon. Could not set new track and what's there is starting to get a little shallow. We still have a good base, will look at grooming again Tuesday morning.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Been picking up a little snow over the last few days and it was time to whip things back into shape - all snowshoe and ski trail were groomed today. Had a chance to skate ski all the trails tonight and they are in phenomenal shape. The tracks are a little hit-n-miss with some sections that are really good and some sections that are a little shallow.

First time here, lovely trail system with gentle rolling terrain. Nice classic tracks and very good snow. New trail center being constructed at highway W....looks terrific and should be finished before summer, for mountain bikers, and later for skiers, snowshoers and fat bikers. Wonderful addition to the trails in the Northwoods.
