Skied all south wirth trails Monday night. Great shape for march. The worst ice was on the Erickson trail.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skied Eloise Butler and Quaking Bog sections this afternoon, and trails are in very good condition. South facing hills are getting to be a bit sun affected, but otherwise it generally seemed like nice mid winter snow. Much nicer than yesterday afternoon when it got super soft when it warmed up.

Mint conditions this sunny Monday morning at South Wirth! The overnight grooming set up perfectly south of Glenwood Avenue (Picnic Pavilion Loop, Anwatin Loop, Wedding Hill, Erickson Loop, Quaking Bog Trail, Norm Oakvik Trail, 394 Connector, Brownie Lake) and all of these loops were the cleanest and best overall conditions of the season for skating. (No classic tracks as of this morning, however.) Also, the trail sections next to Wirth Parkway are nice and clean, so you can use your best skis, no problem. Even the 394 overpass was suitable for good skis. The trails north of Glenwood (Jar Hill, Wirth Lake, JD Rivers) are much softer and contain classic tracks. Unbelievably amazing skiing in the woods at South Wirth - thanks to the groomers who have spent so many hours keeping these trails in mint condition.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I groomed Bog Butler and Brownie for skating tonight. Did not set classic track because of time constraints. All the lumps that formed today are smoothed out.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I rolled Eloise Butler, Quaking Bog, and Brownie Lake this morning. It's on the soft side, although I suspect it will set up nicely. Be prepared to see some downed branches as the increasing wind hits the heavy, snow laden trees. Go enjoy it while it lasts!

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skied Eloise and the Bog over to Brownie and Cedar this afternoon. The classic tracks and skate deck were in good shape except for Cedar. It hadn't been groomed in awhile, and lots of people had been walking on the trails in the woods on the N.E. corner of Cedar. it was still fun to get out on the lake. It's amazing how that warm March sun and the mid 30's can transform the trails so quickly. I used the nowax skis this afternoon.

Morning

[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Continued good conditions on everything in Theo Wirth South, with the exception of the Anwatin loop adjacent to Theo Wirth Parkway, which continues to be plagued with a lot of dirt and brown ice chunks from the road plowing. It's been pretty bad in that area so I recommend "B" or rock skis as others have. Plus, there is a small road crossing by the pavilion that just has a tiny layer of snow so rock skis will make for a continuous ski without needing to take off the skis in these areas.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Trails south of Glenwood down to Brownie Lake were groomed this morning. Generally very good condition. The ice chunks from plowing that have been an issue for the past couple days should be less of an issue today.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied several laps of Butler and the Bog late today. Snowplow threw a lot of dirty ice chunks off the east side of Theodore Wirth Parkway just north of 394. Can't get through that section without avoiding the junk (should've taken skis off). Somewhere out there today I put a large scratch in my race skis. I advise using B skis or rock skis if doing that section. Otherwise lots of snow even in on fast downhills that have been snow plowed out pretty hard. It appeared the trail was probably groomed more than 24 hrs ago.

I had a good ski on the trails south of Glenwood. The classic tracks were firm and in good condition. The skate deck was also in decent condition. There were some leaves around in the tracks, but not that many. It was nice to get out of the wind on these protected trails. I wish the Eloise and the Oakvik trails hadn't changed this year. It just seems like you're going on more flat sections and more uphills in the new counter clockwise direction. Oh well, change is hard for me. Thanks to the groomers for keeping these trails groomed on a regular basis.
