Great ski on about 18k of Gooseberry's system north of the highway.. Grooming was quite recent and excellently done but it was snowing hard so the going was a bit slow but the grip and kick was great. Beautiful system, nicely signed so one can plan your way thru all the trails. I should stop here more often on my way up the shore. I was quite pleased with the grooming done early in the week after a recent 3-4 inch snowfall.

Classic skied most every trail at Gooseberry today between 11 and 4PM and had a great time (with good recommendations from the visitor center). Grooming was excellent for classic but (despite fresh corduroy) the skate deck was uneven in lots of places and had mysterious gouges. Saw the groomers out today. Despite the mist from the lake, conditions were not at all icy and downhills were easy. We encountered much wider (read: more forgiving) trails and less leaf litter than our ski at Jay Cooke yesterday and there was just more snow cover this far north. Trails (mostly intermediate) are very well marked with frequent winter map signs and offer forest skiing experiences as well as beautiful vistas of Lake Superior. and the frozen falls. Trails do intersect with snowmobile trails, but are clearly marked and we saw only one. Visitor Center walking trails to the main falls are glaze ice and access was discouraged.

Fantastic skiing. Beautiful day. The groomer was out making great tracks! Conditions were good. We need more snow!

Excellent morning at Gooseberry. The groomers have done a great job recovering from the ice event last week. Today they were resetting the classic track. I was reminded of the need for patience as I skied beyond the busy visitor center and falls area with the many visitors enjoying the frozen falls. The reward was near solitude on the northern edge of the park and great views of Superior as I raced back downhill.

Excellent at Gooseberry today. We skied the lake loop which had just been groomed. The tracks were terrific. Lots of others enjoying the bright day and moderate temperatures. The stretch down the Gitchi Gami trail to the lake was especially beautiful with the Superior sparkling in the distance.

I skied the loop by the lake. The tracks were in good shape. There were spots where the snow was a little thin, but overall it was good. The lake was beautiful.

Freshly groomed after last night's snowfall. Did the lake loop and it was in great condition. Only a spot or two with some branches or ice. The road crossings had a decent pile of snow as well. If you go up to the bridge and do any of the upper trails, the area under the bridge has very little snow. I'd suggest removing your skis when crossing under the bridge.

We skied the lake loop this morning. Groomed and very pretty. A few spots where tree roots showed through or pine cones had fallen, but mostly great cover, so good skis are fine. We skied part of the upper loop (above the bridge) on Friday and there was plenty of snow. We had to break trail, but the trails up there are probably groomed now, too. Very beautiful snow on trees.
