Took a chance that there might be some tolerable skiing at Eagle Point. A 10 foot wide melt water stream running across the far western end of the trail put an end to that delusion. I had already detoured around one stretch of frozen puddles by that point. Turned out it probably was not necessary if you don't mind skiing across ice. My right inside ankle was burning by that point of my return so maybe my body was also telling me the season was done.

Wonderful spring skate skiing. I was out at 2 pm and the snow had softened enough to grip an edge but had not turned to mush. A little icier in the shade and skiing over a few frozen puddles. Was mostly pretty fast. Expect the same tomorrow late morning to mid afternoon. One place for a short distance someone had walked through the softened snow with boots and the bootprints froze into holes and mounds. I wish they kept it skiing only til the snow base is gone.

Grooming Scheduling [ Trails Open: Partial, ]
|
All grooming has been suspended for the season due to the warm temperatures and rain. The lights have been turned off. Trails are no longer designated ski trails. Thanks to everyone who provided comments and photos during the ski season.

Skate lane looked perfect. Well formed classic tracks, variable soft and glazed. Oak leaves have diminished for today anyway. Lots of ski friends out today as we squeezed out another precious ski and thanks to the great grooming! Guess the rain must come so we can bike, hike, etc. Love the seasons!

Eagle Point was in very good condition. Recently groomed; minimal rutting where prior skaters broke thru. 30 degrees at 7:15 start, a little after sunset under a nice crescent moon. I had the skis and boots but no appropriate clothing - I nevertheless raced out here after getting out of work at 6:30 figuring the sweats and hockey jersey and t shirt that I had with to play hockey later in the evening could work. It did just fine. Literally one of my best, fastest skates in a couple months. I used FastWax Salmon LF.

Good trail conditions for both classic and skating. Nice deep tracks and firm skate deck. Nice to be able to ski until 7:30. Brown Pond trail was the best but Northern Lights and Burr Oak trails a close second. Hats off to the crew at Lake Elmo for keeping the trails in such nice shape.

All ski trails have been packed and tracked today. The skate decks are in very good shape. Tracks are okay. There is some debris on the trails.

Trails had been groomed but the wind was blasting so pretty much all trails were drifting over. Snow was surprisingly fast but you had to wrestle your way around the blowing and drifting snow. Made for a fun sort of arctic adventure.
