Mt. Ashwabay Ski Trails
Bayfield, WI
Trail Length: 40k  Maps: | 1 Ski Lift , 1 Jerry Jolly
Groomed: Skating/Classical    Lighted: No Snowmaking: No
Contact: 715-779-3227    Weather: [ NWS ]
Notes:   A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Good conditions at Mt. Ashwabay. Some of the classic only trails like Opperdahls, Seagull, and Deer Path were groomed and tracked last night. The wider skate trails appeared to have been groomed earlier in the week. The deck was firm but pole plants kept punching through. Could use some cold weather to harden things up. Love these trails.

Skated much of Ashwabay, including the Jolly Long Loop on Tuesday. It was all groomed well, but as it was new cold snow, it was not a perfectly firm deck, and required more effort than ideal. But that is the only thing I can say that is less than excellent.

Today Dave and Steve groomed and tracked Anchor, Seagull, Powerline, Rollercoaster, Telford, Sugarbush Classic, Seagull up-hill connector, Dog Road, Jolly Long, and the new skate trail. Bill and Mike dragged and tracked Raven, Deer Path and Black Bear. The crew reported very good to excellent conditions.

Most of the trails are in excellent condition; nice deep tracks for classic (skating lane looked excellent throughout). Skied Sugar Bush out to Deer Path. Deer Path was newly tracked, but only to Bear Track, which was tracked. I discovered a new "short cut" trail off of Bear Track that was awesome. Did about 8 miles in a winter wonderland. If you are looking for skiable snow, Ashwabay is the place to be.

Trails were freshly groomed and in great shape! Groomers were hard at work rolling and tracking some of the Jolly Trails so most if not all trail segments should now be groomed. Conditions are a bit soft because of the new snow.
