Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 3 to 7 of 7    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec
Saturday, January 16, 2016
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good grooming on classic and skate track, however uneven in spots, still excellent snow cover. Looks like groomer came through recently as black hilly trails look almost unused. Plenty of trails for intermediate to advanced skier, some novice, and not all difficult hills as we've been told. New trails cut last year I believe.
A gorgeous park nestled in beautiful farmland and easy to get to. Really tall pines protect from wind and cast array of crisscross shadows. Overlook out to valley along ridge is not far from parking lot and a big "wow!".

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: 3 inches of new snow freshly groomed and tracked.
Hoffman was groomed this morning and should be firming up! The whole system was groomed and tracks laid on many loops. With the cold setting in this snow should last awhile!

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Thin and bumpy, still fun classic.
This very enjoyable trail system has decent snow cover and WOULD have been great for skating had it not been for the 3 ATV riders who don't seem to think that 5000 miles of Wisconsin ATV trail is sufficient to meet their needs. Despite that, we had an enjoyable ski in the skied in classic track, where the ATV's missed them. The outer loop is especially nice and great hill training! Trying to skate this ATV ruined trail is pointless.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Great coverage. Good conditions.
The grooming of skate deck was a bit rutted and uneven but coverage was good. Classic tracks were good. There was also some foot traffic, particularly headed to the lookout tower. This was my first visit to this area. Beautiful, challenging trails with fun terrain and layout. Distance of all trails is 8 miles (according to the sign) as opposed to 8 km as shown on Skinnyski listing... The longer distance seemed closer according to my GPS although hard to be precise when you end up retracing some trails to get to all of them.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Freshly rolled, groomed and tracked.
The Hills of Hoffman received 8 inches of snow this week. Trails have been improved during the off season and you might not even recognize some of them! Some of the best skiing in Wisconsin!
