Notes

Maintained by Elk River Nordic Nordic Ski Club, these trails have become a hot-spot for fantastic skiing in the North Metro. Trails are largely wooded over rolling terrain, but some sections have good climbs and descents. Trails consist of several interconnected loops and are aptly named--be sure to check out the "Top-of-the-World" and "Gravity Box" as well as "Wash Pond Flats" to the NE of the biathlon range. There is not a warming shack, but at least one port-o-potty at the main parking lot. Primarily groomed for skate (not always tracked for classic).

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Groomers made a late run last night and rolled the new powder. Perimeter 10k is in nice shape, but B skis would be your best bet. Trails with pavement below should be skied with caution or avoided.

Night
Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All ]
Swung by Woodlands and ran into a groomer. The rumor was true, outer perimeter trail was groomed last night. If your expectations can handle some oak leaves on the trail, your experience should be better than just ok. Get some before it turns into a squeak fest! Who'll make first tracks?

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Full, but thin, coverage with some stick and leaf debris, maybe a few very small dirt spots. A little wavy but overall another enjoyable ski in the woods. Other people to deer ratio today 2:2. If you have quick feet, a trip to Elk River would be worth your drive. I heard a rumor that the groomers are considering a touch-up run soon.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Rock skis ]
Skied Tuesday and Wednesday. It's pretty rough, and your rock skis will collect more "character". It's worth it though, to be off the hamster wheel. Today's dusting will certainly help.

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Shear Pin just reported in that he and Robin just finished re-rolling the the outer loop. Trail testers today found the out loop skiable, so we will open the gates in the morning. Paved trails should be avoided for the most part. Two things you will need if you choose to ski Woodlands before we get more snow are rock skis and low expectations. Quick feet won't hurt either. Enjoy only with a great deal of caution.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails: Closed, Bare ground ]
We have about 2 inches of snow in the forest, which is an accumulation of from about 10 different individual miniature snow events/wimpy clippers. I have managed to keep the reins on the trail crew until yesterday. Last evening Shear Pin and the Engineer busted out of the grooming cave and rolled all of the trails to set the base in hopes that when we get a little more snow we will finally be able to ski the hills of Woodland Trails. We will let you know when we are ready to go. Enjoy soon?
