Reports 6 to 12 of 12    Month: Feb | Jan
Monday, January 22, 2024
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Report on trail from golf course to Smyth Road (0–17 K). The first 6K, including big hills behind golf course, had occasional dirt, which could be avoided. The surface was undulating with occasional soft pole plants at the edge. Classic tracks were present throughout and appeared good. Although not skied, the trail appeared groomed beyond 17K. The trail system needs more snow. Overall, fair-to-good today.

A very pretty day to ski, blue skies, white snow and full sun. Skied the golf course and out to the 9 K mark including the big hills behind the golf course. The skate deck was very firm but undulating with some dirt or leaf spots but easy to avoid. Classic tracks looked solid.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied from golf course (east side of loop) to approximately 8K mark. The tracks on the golf course were partially or completely filled with windblown snow in spots. The skate deck was a good alternative in those spots. In the forest, the tracks were better defined, but may have had some fallen snow and also some tree debris in them. There again, I used the skate deck in some spots. The skate deck looked OK except for bare ground peeking through in many spots. The grooming didn't look fresh, but they may be waiting for new snow to work with. Overall, it was pretty and enjoyable, but slower for classic skiing. B skis recommended.

Skied from the golf course out to the Old 32 trailhead. Good skate conditions with a firm and fast but undulating base. Some small spots of dirt or leaves but pretty easy to avoid. Classic tracks looked solid.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We were greeted with fresh tracks and plenty of new, cold snow at Lakewoods this morning. Under a beautiful blue sky we classic skied from the Old 32 parking lot north to Smyth Road and back. There is a 6-10" base on the skate deck. Though cold and slow, we appreciated the groomers handiwork. Carpe Skiem!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Grooming is complete for the Golf Course to Smyth Road. Single track set (the area highlighted in pink). Because of high winds, expect the Golf Course to be blown over. The Golf course hills are rolled but, about half the area has a center ridge of up to two feet wide (the area in blue). We plan on grooming that section Tuesday. The area north of Smyth Road was rolled before the storm and is covered with about six inches of soft snow. Plans are to roll and possibly groom Tuesday.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied from the golf course out to 8k including the beginners loop. Pretty nice skiing with full coverage but the surface is a little soft in spots and there is some undulation in the skate deck. Classic tracks looked decent. Most of the trail is groomed from the golf course to Smyth Rd, the only exception is the big hills behind the golf course.
