Reports 21 to 29 of 29    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Monday, January 14, 2019
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Skate deck groomed throughout. Very rare dirt spots. Diagonal tracks looked deep and intact (but I skated). Much use over last weekend and will need re-grooming soon. Worth the drive.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails were in great shape for skate skiing. Piston Bully groomed. Very light rain from Friday night mixed in perfectly to make for perfect snow. I was pleasantly surprised how good the trail system was. Worth the drive from Green Bay. Classic tracks were also in very nice shape also.

Got on the trail at the golf course at about 2PM. Had a great time skiing (skating) the trail to Paya Lake Road and Back. The trails were groomed and a classic track was just being set! Looks like a great week of skiing ahead!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
On the snow about noon, 18 degrees, no wind. Off the snow 3:10 pm, 22 degrees, no wind. The Piston bully was out leveling the trail and laying track. Track was excellent with some debris. Skate lane looked good to vary good early season. Snow was fast.

Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand

Awesome conditions, what a nice change from 48 hours earlier! Skated all segments west of Sullivan Springs Road. Full coverage, variable pole plant. Tracks set in the loops near the Old 32 Parking lot. I spoke with the groomer and tracks will be set throughout the network before the weekend. The hill loop near the golf course was spectacular. Carpe Skiem.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Not recently groomed for skate or classic. I skated on top of a crusty, full snow covered surface on the golf golf section with a very soft pole plant. There is plenty of snow (4-8") above the base for the groomers to work with; once groomed, the trail network should be in very good shape. (I would not drive far to ski Lakewood until there is a grooming report). Carpe Skiem.

[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
I skated the golf course loop this morning. The base was icy (although it had been groomed in the last few days) but there was a dusting of new snow from yesterday on top. It was fast and just enough of an edge to make it easy! Good to be on skis!

We had 5 to 6 inches of snow on Saturday and Sunday. It was heavy and wet. The entire trail is rolled and combed. It's uneven in spots with some stuble sticking through. There are a few spots where deer have foraged that have leaves on the surface. I skied the north end and was pleasantly suprised. Conditions are fair.

Thank you to the groomers! Skated from the Golf Course to the Old 32 Parking lot, decent coverage with occasional grass coming thru the 4-5 inch base. Some wind debris throughout. Groomed for skating only with variable pole plant and uneven deck. Definitely worth the trip to get that first ski of the season in! I did have to take my skis off to cross Highway 32 at Moccasin Brook. The trail north of the Old 32 parking lot was also groomed but much softer than the golf course side Highway 32.
