[ Rock skis ]
We used our old scale skies on Thursday for an enjoyable back country ski at Drummond. Snow coverage was 100% including the blow down area at the far end of the trail. Tracks were nearly a memory but the trail was solid. Rock skies are recommended due to the extreme trash under the pines.

Firsthand Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The Drummond Ski Trails are still in good shape and skiable. You will probably want to use klister or no-wax skis due to the 40+ degree afternoon temperatures. The tracks are there and then not there, with lots of needles and twigs down among the pines. We won't be doing any more grooming this year due to the melting conditions. It's more about getting stuck with the snowmobile and groomer, than the ability to set new tracks. The base is still fairly firm, except if you step off the trail without your skis.
Today was the final day for the Drummond Nordic Kids to ski this year. They did games on the first part of the Boulevard and several skied the race track. Then there were hot dogs and s'mores in the parking lot. About 20 youthful skiers had fun, along with about a dozen parents.

Excellent conditions, excellent grooming. Compliments to groomer Jim and the other volunteers who maintain this trail for the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The Drummond trails have new tracks as of today. Dale incorporated the latest small snowfall (only 4 inches!) and was able to renovate and set tracks today. The new snow was very dry, but should freeze down overnight. The base is quite deep, but somewhat soft, with the snow in the woods at about four feet.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
New tracks were set on all of the trails. The last wind and snow dropped about five inches on the trails. Grooming went well, except the base was very soft with all the build up. Tracks look good. There is one place far out on the Boulevard where the Tide-Tech groomer got stuck, but after a night of freezing temperatures the base firmed up enough to dig out and finish setting track. Thanks to Hans for help in pulling the groomer up the hill and repairing the hill. Let's go skiing.
