Went to McMiller at noon and skied the Orange and the Red loops. Pretty soft and sticky with some debris from tree clearing, very wet snow in low spots, but still well covered. I only have about 7 hours of experience so I quickly learned that it's a different technique than skating on the harder packed snow. I'm not a snow snob yet, so it was still a lot of fun and I had to work for it. I enjoyed that big downhill! I think I will go over to Nordic tomorrow and see how it compares.

Great time at McMiller today. Skied the blue loop, red loop, orange loop and biathlon loop. No classic track set today, but the skate deck was excellent and tracked down well. A bit of wind blown snow made for some bumps on the top of the ridges on blue. Biathlon loop was in excellent condition.

Conditions are really good for skating and, with polar wax, glide is very good. A little bumpy and narrow but if one doesn't mind technical in soft snow, that's your day. Postcard quality scenery that won't disappoint. I do not advise classic as there are no tracks. Lots of work from the DNR to get these trails open, we can see the tree clean up operations. Thanks guys!

The trail crew did an amazing job getting this open! The blue loop was fully cleared and groomed with less than an inch of fresh snow. The deck is a bit uneven in places, but nothing you can't ski through. There is stick debris in many places from the trees that were removed from the trail, hence the B skis. I did use the green passthrough on my second loop which was a big mistake. It's not groomed, and there are several trees across the trail. Seeing how bad this short section was gives a greater appreciation for what the trail crew has done with the blue! Full snow cover - hope it sticks around awhile!

McMiller was groomed. No tracks set. The skate deck was a little soft and uneven but that is to be expected due to the deep snow. I skied the green loop and then went over to the biathlon loop. The biathlon loop was in great shape. You can see evidence of all the work required to clear downed trees and we appreciate that work.

Observation
[ Trails Open: Partial ]
Stopped by McMiller at noon on Wednesday. It was partially rolled but not wide enough to skate. No track were set as far as I could tell.

I soldiered through the entire blue trail, more of ski-snowshoe than gliding. A foot of snow over last grooming and treas and branches throughout all the park including on down slopes of the hills. Park services will not be able to groom the trails until a team with chainsaws cleans the trail from logs. Do not recommend going before it happens.

Trails are not groomed. Some trees are down, but you can get around them. Assuming the trees must be dealt with before grooming can begin. With the deep snow skating is near impossible, classic is the way to go. Building is open, heat is on, but water is not working.

Skied the full blue loop starting at about 1:15 pm. It was groomed and my tracks were the first. Soft as expected, enjoyable as expected. No rocks, a few sticks. The layout of this place is just perfect. What a spot.
