Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Holy cow Batman .... it was sweet soft sun warmed snow this afternoon. I stayed on the top areas other then one short venture down into the shady areas but I turned around and climbed up. The shade kept the snow cold and icy so I went back up to the top which was sun soaked. A couple areas that were open yesterday on the golf course area were roped and closed today. This retirement gig lets me pick the time a day when the snow is sweet. Really it was very fine out there today. Everything that was open was rolled today and corduroyed beautifully. I classic skied but there were tracks from skaters. Oh ... and I saw no one else skiing out there this afternoon. Whaaaat?

Was out this afternoon hoping the sun and bit of warmth would soften things up but that did not happen. That said, it was pretty decent skiing though quite icy. I classic skied and it was fast. Skate skiing might be better than classic. Was the only person out there for a while but when I was leaving a few others were there. As one of the skiers said to me: it's white and slippery.

Skied CXC and outer golf course loop. Yuriy and crew are working miracles out there! Solid thin deck with freshly groomed thin top, lots of thin spots and a few bare stretches. Groomers even got creative in spots where trail was thin, where they groomed/widened the trail. But good overall considering the remaining snow.

Skied two laps of golf course on fresh gator groomed trails early and manmade snow loops. Small amount of groomed snow on solid base. First lap was ice crystal type snow, second lap quickly turned to mushy type - amazing how quickly texture changed. Still mostly good coverage but probably won't last long with warmer temps. Thank you groomers for keeping us skiing!

Skied early morning, did a couple laps on the golf course. Varied conditions. Watch out for ruts created by someone who drove golf course. Snow became very soft by the time I left. More and more bare spots popping up.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied everything but the challenger loop. Conditions are significantly better than my attempt at skiing CXC yesterday morning. There are more bare spots that are showing up, both in the tracks and the deck, so take care if you're skiing in the dark. Otherwise, they are easy to avoid. Tracks are generally in good shape, although I encountered the full spectrum of icy, slushy, and soft conditions in between the good. On my skin skis, kick ranged from excellent to meh, and the same can be said for glide. Pole plants, while much firmer than the last few days, still are occasionally quite soft.

Went out not knowing what to expect given the previous days of warm weather and was pleasantly surprised. Skate deck is a bit chunky, slanted, or uneven in areas but otherwise pretty skiable especially on the golf course which I made a few laps on. Snow started very hard and icy, and was getting soft after 11 am or so when the sun came out. There are a handful of patches with bare ground sticking through, mainly at bottom of hills, so might recommend B skis if you have them. Else if you're careful, it shouldn't be a problem.

Soft, soft, soft. Still good coverage but most all pole plants went through the skate lanes and to the ground. Still pretty much full coverage.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Skied everything at CXC and the golf course except for the hilly "Challenger" portion. Conditions were mostly slushy, although the tracks were just firm enough that I wasn't sinking in on my skinny skin skis. The tracks were still well intact in most places, which was a nice surprise. There were a few bare spots, but they were all easy to avoid. There were a couple of extremely wet/slushy spots on the golf course that are unfortunately not so easy to avoid. All things considered, my glide was ok, but kick on my skin skis was atrocious. I saw more classic than skate skiers today, which is a first for me at CXC. Perhaps a testament to the conditions.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Softer than yesterday but still full coverage on the skating lanes. I still didn't sink in too deeply with my skies but many pole plants went through the hard pack and into the ground. Soft and slow but glide was very consistent. I did see some bare spots in the classic tracks, not many and short.
