Spring skiing lives at Miners. Rough going for sure but some decent stretches — although the iron range was rearing its red head in other spots. Caution required for sure! Ironwood got about 10 inches of lake effect snow last Sunday.

The sun took a toll on the trails today. Still skiable, but quite a few bare spots. The season of rock skiing continues.

Grooming

Groomed the deck and set a shallow track. Classic and skate skied it after grooming. Decent rock skiing, but sun came out and was melting things rapidly.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The snow continued throughout the day, so I headed back tonight to roll and comb the trail. The end result looks pretty good and I would rate the trail as B skis at this point. Earlier today, one and a half passes were made with a roller and comb, but tonight it was rolled and combed to the full width. Amazingly enough these are some of the best conditions we've seen all season. Grooming plans: Another groomer plans to go out later in the day tomorrow, and if the snow continues, setting a track might be possible.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
All trails appear to have been rolled and combed this morning. The skiing this afternoon was pretty good with a few inches of fresh snow on top. Still coming down no track set. Conditions looked only improve with continued snow and cold so nice to ski again!

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
A wind blown 2-4 inches was rolled and combed this morning. Rock skiing at best since some areas are very thin.

Decent enough skate skiing at Miners. A freeze last night left the trails in Ironwood pretty icy, including Wolverine which was downright scary for old guys like me this morning. Miners with its more gentle terrain proved a better fit. Skate lane had total coverage with 2-3 inch base no bare sports and was manageable on the downhills. Classic track was intact but would have required a klister approach. What a year!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
We freshened the skate deck and shoveled a few very few thin spots. Conditions are really good considering the amount of snow and the warm days of late. We were able to groom out much of the boot traffic on this multi-use trail without pulling up dirt. Classic tracks are good, filled in a few thin spots but did not reset them. Conditions turned out so good, my rest day turned into a ski day!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Very thin rock ski conditions at Miners but I'll take it in what's been the worst start to the season here since 1998-99. All trails were rolled and combed. No tracks set so the skating was much better than classic. Volunteer groomers have also done a nice job here connecting the Curry and Iron Belle segments into the main Miners system so there's 7-8k of decent skiing now.

Much improved from yesterday but still rock ski conditions. Trails have been groomed and a track set, but expect thin cover and rocks.
