2017-2018 season
Reports 23 to 30 of 30    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle

Prairie trail has some groomed and decent snow for skating if you're determined to get out. Remaining trials are icy and hills are treacherous at 9am.

Just barely enough to classic around. Baker did not get the 11 inches other parts of the Twin Cities did. It needs much more snow.

Skied Prairie-Hill-Timber backwards to the burned out entry to timber and back on great fast well groomed deck! Likely good Sunday early as well. Normal entry is poor and you have to walk first hill to enter Timber. Island has dodgy downhills and rate it not worth it.

Snow is firm and groomed but there are no classic tracks set. Skied the Fairway trail and it was in fairly good condition for skate skiing, but classic skiers may struggle. A bit thin in some spots - some areas have the asphalt golf cart paths poking through. It's easy to avoid the thin spots though.

Skied the skijor trail at Baker. It was in much better shape than I expected. Yesterday's new snow did wonders. There were a few icy spots on the south bound side of the loop but they were easy to avoid. The northbound side was almost perfect.

The snow is pretty thin but you can ski around most of the bad patches: Prairie trail had the best coverage. Don't worry about the crowds - there were only two cars in the parking lot.

Much of Baker is very well groomed! Usual bad spots are short but bad: first hill on Hill trail, and both arms where Hill trail splits to Timber and Island. Would recommend to walk the downhill towards Island area but is short. Other random dirt spots are rare and easy to double pole around. Old school bring a dustpan/ shovel to repair those small areas and keep it open!

Skijor Trails: Skied the entire 10k multi-use loop starting from the horse lot. Great coverage, ungroomed, but nicely packed snow over the paved bike trail. Too thin for good polling if just skiing, but awesome for skijor. You could probably classic ski the grass apron if you want to make a trail.
